HNLU wins 9th Dastur National Direct Tax Moot Court Competition, students bag top honours in individual categories as well

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, continued its impressive run of success in national-level moot court competitions by winning the 9th Dastur National Direct Tax Moot Court Competition . This prestigious national competition was jointly organized by  the Government Law College, Mumbai , and  the Chamber of Tax Consultants .

The HNLU team comprised Devesh Mishra , Rashleen Kaur Saluja, and Asmi Chandrakar . All three students are third-year BA LL.B. (Hons.) students (Batch 2029). The team performed exceptionally well in each stage of the competition. The preliminary and quarter-final rounds were held online on June 13, 2026, the semi-finals at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Mumbai, and the finals at the Government Law College, Mumbai, on June 27, 2026.

  • The HNLU team not only won the champion trophy of the competition but also won a cash prize of ₹12,000 .

HNLU students also achieved outstanding individual performances. Rashleen Kaur Saluja was declared the Best Speaker and received a cash prize of ₹5,000 . Devesh Mishra was honored as the Second Best Speaker and received a prize money of ₹3,000 .

Congratulating the students and faculty moot mentors Dr. Anindya Tiwari and his team on this achievement, HNLU Vice Chancellor Prof. V. C. Vivekanandan said that the university’s consistent success in national and international moot court competitions is a result of its experiential legal education model.

He explained that HNLU has introduced innovative systems like the Moot Clinic , replacing traditional mid-term exams , which has reshaped the process of developing students’ research, drafting, oral advocacy, and courtroom presentation skills. Through continuous practice and evaluation in real-courtroom-like conditions, the university has developed a robust advocacy ecosystem that prepares students to excel in national and international competitions.

Prof. Vivekanandan said, “Mooting is not just a competition, but an integral part of legal education. Through the Moot Clinic, our students develop qualities such as research, effective advocacy, teamwork, and professional ethics, which are not possible to develop through traditional examinations. The continued success at the national level is a testament to HNLU’s complete commitment to practical and results-oriented legal education.”

The University heartily congratulated Devesh Mishra , Rashleen Kaur Saluja and Asmi Chandrakar for this remarkable achievement and also appreciated the contribution of the faculty members and moot mentors who guided the students.
