- Awareness activities across the state regarding balanced diet, prevention of anemia and maternal and child health
Under Nutrition Month 2026, Chhattisgarh is conducting extensive public awareness and participation-based activities to improve the nutrition and health of children, pregnant and lactating mothers, and adolescent girls. The Women and Child Development Department is developing Anganwadi centers as active centers for nutrition, health, and child development activities, raising awareness among the community about balanced diet, anemia prevention, hygiene, growth monitoring, and a healthy lifestyle.
In this context, special activities are being organized as part of Nutrition Month in Shankargarh, an aspirational development block in Balrampur district. Their objective is to improve key performance indicators related to nutrition and health and ensure the achievement of set goals. Anganwadi workers and departmental staff, with the active participation of the community, are disseminating nutrition-related information from households and to the community.

In this context, a nutrition and health awareness program was organized at the Anganwadi Center in Bachwar under Project Shankargarh. Children, pregnant and lactating mothers, and community members actively participated in the program. Information was provided regarding the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet, prevention of anemia, hygiene, regular monitoring of children’s growth, and a healthy lifestyle. They were also encouraged to prepare nutritious dishes from locally available food items and incorporate them into their daily diet.
- Special emphasis on identification and treatment of malnutrition
During Nutrition Month, special efforts are being made to prevent malnutrition and improve the nutritional status of children. At the Bachwar Anganwadi Center, children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) were assessed and identified. Parents were informed about proper nutrition and care measures for malnourished children. The importance of referring severely malnourished children to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centers (NRCs) for necessary treatment and nutritional management was also explained.
During the program, the health department team vaccinated children and checked mothers’ blood pressure and sugar levels. This is helping to provide nutrition, as well as maternal and child health services, to the community through Anganwadi centers.
- Information about schemes to eligible beneficiaries

Under Nutrition Month, eligible beneficiaries are being informed about the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and encouraged to register, so that no eligible mother is deprived of the scheme’s benefits. Information is also being provided about government services and schemes related to the nutrition, health, and care of children and mothers.
These activities, conducted by Anganwadi workers and departmental staff with the active participation of the community, aim to prevent malnutrition, improve children’s nutritional levels, and strengthen maternal and child health. Through Nutrition Month, continuous efforts are being made to transform nutrition into a mass movement by promoting public participation for a healthy childhood and safe motherhood in the district.
