Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the Vindhya region is rich in all kinds of resources , but in some places there is a challenge of scarcity of water. Sleemanabad Tunnel will become Amritdhara for Katni , Rewa, Satna, Maihar and Panna districts. With the blessings of Lord Shri Ram, the total irrigated area of these five districts of Chitrakoot region and Vindhya Valley will increase by two and a half lakh hectares. The problem of drinking water for people will be solved. Electricity will also be generated in many places. This project will play a crucial role in fulfilling the ambition of increasing the area under irrigation in the state. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for the tunnel project on behalf of the people of the state and said that out of the Rs 1600 crore, the central government has provided about Rs 275 crore for the project. Due to the commitment of the state government, today this challenging tunnel project is progressing towards completion. This tunnel is a kind of boon for the farmers and traders of the area. The nearly 12 km long project will prove to be a case study in future engineering. The tunnel will remain safe for 100 years even in case of severe earthquake. At many places the depth of the tunnel is up to 120 feet below the ground. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav gave this information in a discussion with the media after inspecting the Sleemanabad Tunnel.
- Mother Narmada, Ganga basin will also be greened
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Narmada river joins Khambhat or Khadi , but it is a miracle of science that now Mother Narmada will bring greenery in the area around Son river in Ganga basin through this historic tunnel. There was a time when it seemed impossible to prepare the tunnel. But when the intention is big and the work is done with a pure mind, success is sure to come. The entire team continued to work with the determination to complete the Narmada Tunnel despite repeated challenges of difficult cliffs. At one time the irrigated area in the state was only 7.5 lakh hectares. In our governments, this area has increased to 44 lakh hectares , which has increased to 65 lakh hectares in the last two and a half years. Narmada Tunnel project is a big gift for farmers in Kisan Kalyan Varsh. In the next three months, water will be available to the farmers for irrigation in an area of one lakh hectares for the Rabi crop.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the 152 cubic discharge of Son Cachar will provide irrigation facilities in a total command area of 1 lakh 85 thousand hectares including 1 lakh 4 thousand 970 hectares in Satna district , 54 thousand 227 hectares in Maihar district, 21 thousand 823 hectares in Katni district , 3 thousand 532 hectares in Rewa district and 448 hectares in Panna district. Along with this the work of construction of canals is going on rapidly. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that in the tunnel project, on one side where Narmada river will flow through the tunnel, on the other side, Katni river will flow from above. This tunnel project is a great gift for Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand , which will fulfill the expectations of the public. Irrigation department has done commendable work under challenging conditions. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav appealed to the farmers not to sell their land at any cost. This region will overtake Punjab and Haryana in future. Migration from this area will stop and economic prosperity will come. Our government is moving forward in Kisan Kalyan Varsha fulfilling big resolutions. He said that behind this historic achievement is the tireless hard work of engineers , officers , employees and thousands of workers of Narmada Valley Development Authority. During the inspection, the Chief Minister interacted with the workers engaged in the construction of the tunnel , encouraged them and appreciated their contribution in this historic work.
- There is no environmental damage from the tunnel either
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the tunnel has been safely removed from under the national highway , railway line , underground crossing and populated areas and there is no structural damage anywhere. Also, there is no environmental damage. Rehabilitation , compensation and relocation of project affected families were also done with full sensitivity and transparency.
- Challenges increased: Engineer-technicians and laborers continued to struggle for success
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the work to build the tunnel was started in three shifts of 8 hours. By the year 2015, a total of 1406 meters of tunnel boring was required to increase its speed. But from the year 2016, the upstream end of the tunnel was excavated with modern machines brought from Germany. The challenges continued to mount after this, but engineers , technicians and laborers continued to work keeping safety standards in mind. There has been a long struggle to build the tunnel and now it has been achieved in the year 2026. After the tunnel is ready, the irrigated area will increase by about two and a half lakh hectares in upstream and downstream.
