South East Central Railway is making continuous, year-round efforts towards environmental conservation, the expansion of green cover, and the preservation of water resources. Rather than limiting environmental conservation to a specific day, the railway is consistently working to develop a green and sustainable railway environment through various schemes and activities.
- Over 6 Lakh Saplings Planted in Three Years
South East Central Railway is expanding its green cover by undertaking large-scale tree plantation drives across railway premises, colonies, and available open spaces. More than 6 lakh saplings have been planted over the last three years.
The Bilaspur railway zone stands as a beautiful example of these efforts; the dense greenery and rows of trees visible throughout the railway colonies and various premises give the area the appearance of a natural ‘Oxy-zone’. This greenery not only enhances the beauty of the railway premises but also contributes significantly to creating a clean, healthy, and pleasant environment.
- Promoting Water Conservation Through Pond Construction and Redevelopment
Alongside environmental conservation, special emphasis is being placed on preserving water resources. To promote rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge, new ponds are being constructed, and existing ones are being redeveloped and renovated within railway premises.
Over the past five years, 17 new ponds have been constructed, and 4 ponds have been renovated. These water bodies are aiding in effective rainwater harvesting, maintaining groundwater levels, and conserving water resources.
