- The event was organised on the theme of ‘One hour on the playground’ and ‘India will play, India will win’.
As per the instructions of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department of the Government of India and the Sports Authority of India, a Sports Day celebration was organized in the memory of Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion of International Sports Day at the Sports Complex of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur from 8:30 am.
‘The chief guest of the program was the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Girish Chandel. The program was presided over by Dean Student Welfare, Dr. Sanjay Sharma.’ University officials, teachers and a large number of students were present in the program.
The program began with a wreath-laying ceremony and a floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player and source of inspiration for Indian sports. Guests were then welcomed with bouquets.
Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Dean of Student Welfare, who presided over the program, informed the students in his presidential address about the importance of sports, yoga, and regular physical activity, and the physical and mental benefits they provide. He encouraged students to adopt a healthy lifestyle and incorporate sports and exercise into their daily lives.

On this occasion, the book “Physical Education, First Aid, Yoga and Meditation: A Practical Perspective,” written by the university’s sports officer, Dr. Ram Kumar Thakur, was released by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Girish Chandel, Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Sanjay Sharma, and other guests present. The book presents topics related to physical education, first aid, yoga, and meditation from a practical perspective.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Girish Chandel, the chief guest of the program, encouraged students to participate more actively in sports and physical activities. He stated that a healthy body and mind are essential for students’ overall development. Highlighting the importance of the “One Hour in the Playground” program, organized as part of the Fit India Movement, he urged students to dedicate at least one hour daily to sports and physical activities.
Dr. Praveen Verma, Dr. Ashutosh Dubey, Subedar Major Govardhan Sharma, Dr. Ram Kumar Thakur, along with university officials, faculty members, and a large number of students were present at the event.
This year, the event was organized under the theme “India will play, India will win” as part of the “One Hour in the Field of Play” campaign. In the final phase of the program, students were given an hour of Zumba and other physical activities, in which they participated enthusiastically.
