  • Earns over ₹2,000 monthly from the shop; Sumitra’s initiative inspires other women in the village

Mrs. Sumitra Karsh from Janjgir-Champa district has paved her own path to self-reliance by saving the monthly funds received under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana. A resident of Kumharikala village in Bamhanidih block, Sumitra chose to save the money received from the scheme instead of spending it on household expenses; she used the accumulated funds to open a small shop selling beauty products, named ‘Shringar Sadan’. Today, after deducting costs and other expenses, she earns more than ₹2,000 per month from this business.

Due to the family’s challenging financial situation, Mrs. Sumitra had long desired to assist her husband in meeting the family’s needs and to create a source of income for herself. The monthly financial assistance credited to her account under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana provided the opportunity to realize this ambition.

  • Turning Savings into Business Capital

Mrs. Sumitra began saving the funds received from the Mahtari Vandan Yojana in a systematic manner. After accumulating a sufficient amount, she purchased beauty products and launched ‘Shringar Sadan’. What started as a small-scale venture gradually evolved into a source of regular income for her.

Currently, after accounting for costs and other expenses, she earns over ₹2,000 per month from the shop. With this income, she supports her husband in meeting the needs of the family and their children. Having her own income has also boosted her self-confidence. Sumitra’s initiative inspires other women

Smt. Sumitra shares that her efforts are being appreciated by both her family and the village community. Seeing her move towards self-reliance, other women in the village are also being inspired to create their own sources of income.

This ‘story of service’—highlighted during the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan—demonstrates how women can generate new income streams by linking regular financial assistance with savings and self-employment. By investing the funds received from the Mahtari Vandan Yojana as capital for her ‘Shringar Sadan’ venture, Sumitra has not only taken a step towards self-reliance but has also contributed to strengthening her family’s financial stability.
