- Jal Jeevan Mission has given the village a new foundation for a healthy, clean and dignified life.
In the Parsada Gram Panchayat of Raigarh district, the Jal Jeevan Mission now provides regular supply of clean and safe drinking water through taps to every household. While villagers, especially women, previously had to travel long distances to obtain water, their daily routine has completely changed with the availability of tap connections in every home. This scheme has not only solved the drinking water problem but has also brought positive changes to the health, education, and economic lives of the villagers.
Mrs. Hira Bai of Parsada village recounts that there was a time when accessing clean drinking water was a major challenge for her family. She would spend hours daily fetching water, making it difficult to fulfill her household responsibilities. Sometimes, the children would have to leave their studies to help fetch water. Due to unsafe water sources, the family was also affected by waterborne diseases and had to incur additional expenses for treatment.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, tap connections were provided to every household in Parsada village by systematically laying pipelines. After the project’s completion, Hira Bai and the entire village saw a significant transformation in their lives. With clean drinking water now regularly available at home, women are freeing up time to focus on family care, children’s education, and income-generating activities.

Children no longer have to worry about fetching water, which prevents their education. Furthermore, access to clean drinking water has reduced waterborne diseases and medical expenses.
Hira Bai says that the Jal Jeevan Mission has not only provided water to homes but has also fostered a new awareness of sanitation, health, and water conservation throughout the village. Villagers now understand the importance of safe drinking water and are vigilant about its conservation. The success of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Parsada village is proof that when basic amenities reach the last person, the village’s social, economic, and health development gains new momentum. Today, the village is moving strongly towards clean drinking water, better health, women’s empowerment, and a bright future for children.
