The Seed Ball Campaign is an environmental protection and afforestation technique. It involves mixing soil, manure, and seeds to form small balls (seed balls). After drying, these balls are thrown onto empty and inaccessible areas or hills. When exposed to rainwater, the soil dissolves, and the seeds germinate and grow into plants.
The district administration’s “Seed Ball Campaign” received further impetus when Revenue Minister Shri Tank Ram Verma personally participated on the ground. He planted 5,000 seed balls en masse in the hilly area of Chuhipali village in the Sarangarh block of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district and planted 30 saplings on the embankment of a newly constructed pond.
Hundreds of villagers, local public representatives and administrative officials participated in this grand programme organised amidst special enthusiasm of the women of ‘VBJIramji’ scheme and ‘Bihan’ group of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
- A revolutionary step towards soil and water conservation and employment
Minister Shri Tank Ram Verma said that preserving the environment and maintaining groundwater levels is our collective responsibility. Seed ball planting and the construction of staggered contour trenches in this hilly region of Chhuipali is not only a revolutionary step towards soil and water conservation, but also provides local employment to villagers during the rainy season. Our government is fully committed to providing services to the last person and enhancing the environment through public welfare schemes.
- Took stock of ground arrangements, discussed on Mahatari Vandan Yojana
During the program, Minister Shri Verma interacted with local women and inquired about the regular payment of funds under the “Mahatari Vandan Yojana,” to which the women happily agreed. He also had cordial conversations with children about their names, education, and school facilities available in the area.
- Trench and pond construction for water and soil conservation
Staggered contour trenches are being constructed on a two-hectare hillside in the village panchayat of Chuhipali at a cost of ₹5.60 lakh. The 2,400 trenches constructed so far will increase groundwater levels and prevent soil erosion by arresting mountain water flow. Additionally, construction of a new pond to conserve mountain water has been completed, which will help alleviate the water crisis in the area.
On this occasion, District Panchayat President and Vice President, former MLA Mrs. Kerabai Manhar, Collector, Superintendent of Police, women members of Bihan and a large number of villagers were present.
