- Participation of over 500 people from 20 villages; launch of the ‘Birhor’ magazine; honoring of 12 members of the Birhor community
On the occasion of World Tribal Day, Mahagenco’s Gare Pelma-2 Collieries Limited, based in Tamnar, organized a special event in the dependent village of Mudagaon (Saraitola) in collaboration with the Adani Foundation. More than 500 people from 20 surrounding villages participated in the event. The objective was to honor the rich culture, traditions, folk art, and social contributions of the tribal community and to connect the new generation with their cultural heritage.
The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the guests. Visiting dignitaries were welcomed with bouquets and shawls. Chakradhar Singh Rathia, President of the Tribal Community (Tamnar Tehsil), and Nandini Manoj Rai, Janpad Member, attended as chief guests. Sarpanchs, deputy sarpanchs, panchayat representatives from various villages, and prominent citizens of the area also participated in the event.
During the program, 17 female students from Atmanand Government School (Kunjemura), Government Middle School (Saraitola), and Government Primary School (Mudagaon) presented captivating tribal folk dances and cultural performances. These performances offered a vivid glimpse into the folk traditions, cultural heritage, and community unity of the tribal society.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the ‘Birhor’ magazine. All the guests jointly unveiled the magazine. Prepared by the Tamnar CSR team following approximately 25 to 30 days of research and documentation, 150 copies of this 16-page magazine have been published. The magazine comprehensively compiles details regarding the Birhor community’s civilization, culture, traditional lifestyle, way of living, dietary habits, and social heritage. This publication represents a significant effort towards preserving the cultural identity, history, and traditions of the Birhor community.
On this occasion, 12 members of the Birhor community were honored for their social and cultural contributions. Female students who participated in cultural performances were encouraged and presented with gifts. Additionally, the Adani Foundation honored senior and distinguished citizens of the region by presenting them with mementos.
The Adani Foundation is implementing various initiatives in the Tamnar region focused on education, healthcare, livelihood enhancement, women’s empowerment, and community development. With the Foundation’s support in the education sector, students have secured admission to prestigious institutions such as Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and Utkarsh Vidyalayas. Thousands of villagers have benefited from healthcare services provided through mobile health care units and emergency ambulance services. The Foundation is also continuously engaged in activities related to community development and water conservation.
Organized on the occasion of World Tribal Day, this event further strengthened the collective commitment to preserving, respecting, and promoting the cultural heritage of the tribal community. Attendees remarked that such events play a vital role in fostering social unity and harmony, alongside preserving tribal traditions, folk culture, and community values.
