Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Torrent Group is investing heavily in the region to meet the growing energy needs of Madhya Pradesh and to make the state self-reliant in the energy sector. More than 43 thousand crore rupees are being invested in the region through various projects operated and under development by Torrent Group, which will create new direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than 15 thousand youth. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said this after a meeting and high-level discussions with Shri Sameer Mehta, Chairman of Torrent Group and Torrent Power Limited in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Wednesday. During this, Additional Chief Secretary Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion Shri Neeraj Mandaloi, Secretary Shri John Kinsley and MD, MPIDC Shri Chandramouli Shukla were present.
- 22 thousand crore rupees 1,600 megawatt thermal power project in Anuppur
An ultra-supercritical thermal power project of 1,600 MW capacity is being set up by Torrent Power in Anuppur district to strengthen the long-term power supply and baseload capacity of the state. About 7000 direct and indirect employment opportunities will be created from this project with an investment of about 22,000 crore rupees. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been executed on 27 January 2026 with Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL). For this the work of land acquisition has been completed and work has been allotted to reputed organizations like L&T and Tata Projects. Pre-construction activities on the site are currently in full swing with approval from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
- Expansion of pumped storage, wind power and additional thermal power projects
In order to promote green energy and energy storage, work is underway on the 1,500 MW Patalkot Pumped Storage Project in Chhindwara district, with a proposed investment of Rs 7,500 crore and will generate around 4,000 jobs. Additionally, 250 MW wind power projects are under development at Ratlam and Ujjain, involving an investment of Rs 2,000 crore and 500 jobs. The group’s 36 MW capacity wind power unit at Mandsaur is already operational successfully. Along with this, another ultra-supercritical thermal power project of 800 MW capacity is also being worked on by Torrent Group, which is expected to create 3,500 jobs with an investment of Rs 11,000 crore.
- Invitation to DBFOO tender for 2,800 MW for future energy needs
Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has estimated an additional thermal power requirement of around 1,900 MW by the year 2036-37 by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) keeping in mind the increasing power demand of the state and future reliable power availability. In view of this, a transparent and competitive tender process is being initiated on DBFOO (Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate) basis for the purchase of a total of 2,800 MW thermal power capacity by the State Government. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has invited Torrent Power to participate in this huge tender process.
- Successful operation of pharma unit in Pithampur and global vision of the group
USFDA approved state-of-the-art pharma manufacturing unit at Pithampur in Dhar district is being successfully operated by Torrent Group with energy sector. More than 400 people have got employment from this unit operated with an investment of 300 crore rupees. Torrent Power, the major power company of Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group, has a total installed generation capacity of around 5.1 GW and the company is working on a target of developing 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2030. This multifaceted investment by Torrent Group will give a new impetus to the overall industrial development and employment generation of Madhya Pradesh.
