Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav arrived in Rewa directly from New Delhi last night to take stock of the flood situation. Upon arrival, he held an emergency meeting via video conference with senior officials regarding the floods. Early on the morning of August 30, he reached Chitrakoot and toured the flood-affected areas. CM Dr. Yadav visited a relief shelter set up by the Chitrakoot Development Authority, where he interacted with flood-affected people and assured them of all possible assistance. He also distributed relief materials to those affected by the floods.
Chitrakoot has experienced excessive rainfall, leading to flood conditions involving the Semraval and Mandakini rivers. Floodwaters have entered people’s homes, causing significant damage to their belongings; however, there has been no loss of life. After touring the affected areas, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav told the media that the rise in water levels of the Semraval and Mandakini rivers—triggered by heavy rains—had caused the flooding. Water has inundated homes in several areas, damaging property. He noted that thanks to the administration’s prompt action, no loss of life has been reported so far, and relief and rescue operations are ongoing.
Essential aid being provided to the people
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that essential assistance is being delivered to the affected people. While the floods have caused significant damage, the extent of the loss is currently being assessed. All relevant administrative officials are present on-site and are continuously monitoring the situation. He added, “I have instructed officials to immediately ensure all necessary arrangements—including food, drinking water, and medical care—for the flood-affected people and to ensure there are no lapses in relief and rescue operations.”
Survey to be conducted; financial aid to be provided
CM Dr. Yadav mentioned that he had stayed in Rewa the previous night. He noted it was a relief that the incident occurred during the day and that the administration was fully alert due to weather forecasts. Thanks to this vigilance and the administration’s promptness, no lives were lost. He remarked that this flood has broken all previous records. Currently, our entire focus is on relief and rescue operations so that the affected people can be safely returned to their homes once the water level recedes. Today, I met with flood-affected citizens and instructed officials to ensure the delivery of dry rations and other essential supplies to them. A formal survey will be conducted for those who have lost livestock or suffered other damages, and financial assistance will be provided in accordance with the rules.
