With the increasing use of the internet and online services in the digital age, the threat of cybercrime has risen rapidly. Awareness and vigilance are essential to stay safe from these threats. This was stated by Shri Ramvichar Netam, the Chhattisgarh Government’s Minister for Agriculture Development, Farmers’ Welfare, and Tribal Affairs. He was addressing a one-day workshop organized by the Chhattisgarh Police under the “Cyber Jagruti Abhiyan” at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, where he attended as the chief guest. Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, attended as the guest of honor, while Raipur Police Commissioner Dr. Sanjeev Shukla presided over the event.
- Special Campaign Running from August 15 to October 2
To effectively curb the rising incidence of cybercrime in the state, the Chhattisgarh Police is conducting a six-week “Cyber Jagruti Abhiyan” from August 15 to October 2, 2026. The campaign aims to educate students, youth, women, senior citizens, and bank account holders on how to protect themselves from online fraud.
- Cybercrimes Increased 12-fold in Four Years
Presiding over the workshop, Police Commissioner Dr. Sanjeev Shukla shared alarming statistics. He revealed that over the past four years, cybercrimes in the country have increased 12-fold, while the monetary value of the fraud has risen 40-fold. Currently, cyber fraud amounting to approximately ₹61 crore takes place daily across the country. Cyber fraudsters are constantly devising new tactics, making it imperative for people to exercise extreme caution.
- Police Outline Key Preventive Measures
Do not share personal information; never disclose your OTP, bank account details, passwords, or ATM PINs to any unknown person. Avoid clicking on any suspicious or unfamiliar links. Do not trust fake job offers, investment schemes, “digital arrest” tactics, phishing calls, or any inducements and threats encountered on social media.
- Contact 1930 immediately in case of fraud.
Raipur Police officials have urged anyone falling victim to cybercrime or financial fraud to immediately call the National Cyber Crime Helpline number 1930 or register a complaint on the portal www.cybercrime.gov.in without delay. The workshop was attended by the University Registrar Dr. Kapil Dev Deepak, the Dean of the College of Agriculture (Raipur), heads of various departments, faculty members, and a large number of students.
