The Chhattisgarh team delivered a stellar performance to clinch the championship title at the 48th All India Electricity Sports Control Board (AIESCB) Table Tennis tournament, hosted by the Chhattisgarh State Power Companies. In the semi-finals, Chhattisgarh defeated the defending champions, Tamil Nadu, with a score of 3-1 to advance to the final. In the final match, they defeated the Assam team—making their first-ever appearance in the tournament—by the same margin of 3-1 to secure the title. Assam finished as runners-up, while Tamil Nadu secured third place and the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPTCL) team took fourth place.
Rajnish Oberoi, Anurag Sharma, and Sameer Tiwari displayed excellent form for Chhattisgarh. The team also included Anil Agarwal, Prashant Bapat, and Sagar Pimplapure. Semi-finalists for the singles and doubles categories were also determined during the competition. In the singles category, Chhattisgarh’s Rajnish Oberoi, CESC’s Gautam Sinha, KPTCL’s Manjunatham T.C., and Assam’s Anupam Tamuli reached the semi-finals. In the doubles category, the semi-finalists were A. Adinarayana and M.V.V. Ramakrishna (Andhra Pradesh), Sanjeev G. and Manjunatham S. (KPTCL), Rajnish Oberoi and Anurag Sharma (Chhattisgarh), and Anupam Tamuli and Animesh Saikia (Assam). The semi-final and final matches for the singles and doubles categories are scheduled for September 8.
Mr. M.S. Chauhan, General Secretary and Executive Director of the Central Sports and Arts Council, stated that teams from power companies across the country participated in the tournament. The prize distribution ceremony will be held on September 8 at 3:00 PM, with the Managing Directors of Chhattisgarh State Power Companies—Mr. S.K. Katiyar, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Shukla, and Mr. Bhim Singh Kanwar—attending as chief guests.
