At IFAT India 2026, held in Mumbai from September 9 to 11, 2026, the Raipur Municipal Corporation showcased its remarkable achievements and innovations in the fields of solid waste management, urban sanitation, and sustainable urban development on a national platform. Representing the Corporation, Additional Commissioner Mr. Vinod Kumar Pandey and Executive Engineer (Swachh Bharat Mission) Mr. Yogesh Kadu participated in various technical sessions, exhibitions, and discussion forums.
IFAT India is recognized as a premier international platform for environmental technology, sanitation, and waste management. During the event, officials from the Raipur Municipal Corporation studied various modern technologies and innovative solutions that could potentially be implemented in Raipur city in the future, subject to need and feasibility.
Key technical solutions studied by the officials included floating trash barriers to intercept floating waste in rivers and water bodies; sensor-based mobile monitoring systems for real-time water quality assessment; ICT-based digital monitoring systems to track the progress of infrastructure projects; and trenchless pipe-laying techniques for expanding water supply and sewerage networks. These technologies offer the potential to further strengthen sanitation management, water conservation, project monitoring, and the quality of citizen services in the city.
As part of the event, a high-level roundtable discussion was held on the theme “From Clean Cities to Circular Cities: The Future of Sanitation and Solid Waste Management in India.” Raipur Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Mr. Vinod Kumar Pandey participated as a panelist, presenting Raipur’s successful sanitation initiatives and innovations at the national level.
The discussion was moderated by Mr. Himanshu Chaturvedi, Associate Partner at KPMG. The panel featured representatives from various urban local bodies, sanitation expert organizations, and the waste management sector, including Mr. Kiran Dighavkar (Deputy Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), Yamini Verma (General Manager, Srishti Waste Management Services), Dr. Ajit Salvi (Director, RCUES-AIILSG, Mumbai), Mr. Mahesh L. Narvekar (Director, Disaster Management and Control Room Department), Mr. Harshavardhan (CEO, CDD Society), and Ms. Shobha Raghavan (CEO, Saahas Zero Waste).
During the panel discussion, Mr. Vinod Kumar Pandey shared details regarding initiatives implemented by the Raipur Municipal Corporation, such as source-level waste segregation, door-to-door waste collection, RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centers, public participation-based sanitation drives, resource recovery and recycling initiatives, and models promoting a circular economy. The innovations and exemplary work undertaken in the sanitation sector in Raipur were appreciated by the attending experts, urban local bodies, and industry representatives.
Participation in IFAT India 2026 provided the Raipur Municipal Corporation with insights into the latest global technologies and best practices concerning sanitation, waste management, water management, and digital infrastructure monitoring. Studying these innovations will open up new possibilities for developing modern and sustainable urban services in Raipur in the future.
