TB Eradication Programme: Vijay gets relief from TB

  • Completely healthy due to continuous check-up, treatment and departmental consultation

Health is a precious asset in human life. Protecting it is a difficult challenge, but it can be controlled through regular screening, treatment, and timely consultation with the health department. The TB eradication program in Mahasamund district is making significant progress. Significantly, 305 of the district’s 551 gram panchayats have become TB-free under this campaign. Through the TB eradication program in the district, TB patients are provided with timely screening, regular treatment, and necessary health consultations. Many people have completely cured their disease through collaboration with the health department. Similarly, Vijay Sahu, a resident of Ward No. 25 in Mahasamund city, has also seen a transformation in his life. With regular treatment and the advice of the health department, Vijay overcame TB.
Vijay explains that for nearly a year, he experienced constant fatigue and a lack of interest in doing anything. He also suffered from a persistent cough and a mild fever in the evenings. He sought treatment from private doctors, but was unable to fully recover. During this time, he also consumed tobacco-laced gutkha and alcohol, which worsened his health problems.
Meanwhile, the ward nurse, Mrs. Rekha Sahu, advised Vijay to get tested at the District Tuberculosis Center, Mahasamund. Vijay went to the District Tuberculosis Center and had his sputum tested, which confirmed TB. Following this, under the guidance of the Health Department, he took TB medication regularly for six months, starting February 13, 2025. He also consumed a nutritious diet along with his treatment. After being counseled by the doctor and nurse about the adverse effects of addiction, Vijay decided to completely stop consuming tobacco-laced gutkha and alcohol.
During his treatment, a health department nurse monitored Vijay’s health periodically and guided him to take his medication regularly. During his TB treatment, he received a total of 6,000 rupees in his bank account in two installments as nutritional assistance, which he used to purchase nutritious food and essential food items. After continued treatment and following the health department’s advice, Vijay underwent another sputum test at the District Tuberculosis Center. On May 29, 2026, after the test, he was declared completely cured of TB. Today, Vijay is completely healthy and continues to work regularly. He has also completely given up drug use.
Vijay says that timely testing and regular treatment allowed him to fully recover from a serious illness like TB. He advises his colleagues and others to stay away from tobacco-containing gutkha, alcohol, or any other intoxicants, and to seek medical treatment at the nearest government health center instead of private treatment for any health problems.
