- Farmers to Now Receive Payment at a Rate of ₹425 per Quintal
- New Rate to Take Effect from the 2025-26 Season
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the prosperity of those who feed the nation—the farmers—is the foundation of Chhattisgarh. The state government is committed to ensuring that farmers receive better returns for their hard work, that agriculture becomes a profitable venture, and that farming families become economically empowered. Keeping the interests of farmers in mind, Chief Minister Shri Sai has decided that sugar mills will procure sugarcane at a rate of ₹425 per quintal. Payments for sugarcane procured during the 2025-26 crushing season will also be made at this increased rate. The Chief Minister noted that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, both the central and state governments are working continuously to increase farmers’ incomes, reduce agricultural costs, and make farming more profitable. The Chhattisgarh government, too, places the interests of farmers at the core of its policies and decisions. The government remains sensitive to the needs and challenges faced by farmers, prioritizing decisions that serve their interests. He emphasized that farmers play a vital role in the state’s economy and rural prosperity; strengthening agriculture will strengthen our villages, and it is through the prosperity of these villages that the path to Chhattisgarh’s own prosperity will be paved.
The Chhattisgarh government has significantly increased the procurement price of sugarcane to boost the incomes of sugarcane farmers and make the cultivation of the crop more profitable. The state government has raised the procurement price from ₹355 per quintal to ₹425 per quintal. This increased rate will also apply to sugarcane procured during the 2025-26 crushing season. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai announced that a bonus of approximately Rs 51.09 crore will be distributed to over 31,000 farmers associated with the state’s four cooperative sugar mills.
- The state government has increased the sugarcane procurement price to Rs 425 per quintal.

Although Chhattisgarh’s contribution to the country’s total sugarcane production is relatively small, the state has now become the leader in ensuring that sugarcane farmers receive the best possible price for their produce. The state government has raised the sugarcane procurement price to Rs 425 per quintal. With this decision—taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai—the sugarcane procurement price in Chhattisgarh has surpassed that of major sugarcane-producing states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab. Notably, this increased rate will be effective from the 2025-26 crushing season. Farmers who have already sold their sugarcane during this season will also be paid according to the revised, higher rate.
- Farmers will receive an additional Rs 70 per quintal.
The government’s decision aims to increase farmers’ income and make sugarcane cultivation more profitable. Previously, sugarcane was procured in the state at a rate of Rs 355 per quintal; the new rate means farmers will receive an additional Rs 70 per quintal. This increase in the sugarcane price comes at a time when balancing the cost of cultivation with farmers’ income has become a key challenge for agricultural policy.
In Uttar Pradesh—a major sugarcane-producing state—the State Advised Price (SAP) for early-maturing sugarcane varieties is Rs 400 per quintal, while it is Rs 415 per quintal in Haryana and Rs 416 per quintal in Punjab. In contrast, sugarcane payments in Maharashtra and Karnataka are determined based on the central government’s Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP), sugar recovery rates, and the specific arrangements of the respective sugar mills. For the 2026-27 season, the central government has set the FRP at Rs 365 per quintal, based on a sugar recovery rate of 10.25 percent. Focus on Increasing Farmers’ Income
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has stated that the government’s objective is to ensure farmers receive fair and better prices for their produce, and to transform farming into a respectable and profitable livelihood. The increase in the sugarcane procurement price is a step taken in this direction. An increment of Rs 70 per quintal will provide farmers with additional income proportional to their total sales.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that his government is moving forward with the firm commitment to ensure that farmers receive better returns for their hard work, that agriculture becomes profitable, and that those who feed the nation—our annadatas—continue to prosper. The benefit of this new rate will also apply to sugarcane sold prior to the price hike. This will provide relief to farmers who have already supplied their produce during the current crushing season. This arrangement is significant in ensuring that the benefits of the price increase reach a wider group of farmers. The impact of the hike in the sugarcane procurement price extends beyond just the farmers’ immediate income; with better prices, farmers can now re-evaluate their sugarcane cultivation area, production costs, and potential profits for the future.
- Annual Sugarcane Production in Chhattisgarh: Approximately 1.86 to 2.04 Million Tonnes
Chhattisgarh ranks 14th in the country in terms of sugarcane production. Currently, four major cooperative sugar mills are operational in the state: Bhoramdeo Cooperative Sugar Mill (Kawardha), Mahamaya Cooperative Sugar Mill (Surajpur), Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cooperative Sugar Mill (Pandariya, Kabirdham), and Maa Danteshwari Maiyya Cooperative Sugar Mill (Balod). Chhattisgarh produces approximately 1.86 to 2.04 million tonnes of sugarcane annually. Sugarcane is cultivated on a large scale in the districts of Kabirdham, Surajpur, Jagdalpur, Surguja, Durg, Bilaspur, and Raipur. Among these, Kabirdham, Jagdalpur, and Surguja are the highest-producing districts. They come.
