Once dependent on farming and manual labor, Mrs. Shyambai now runs a clothing store in her village. A resident of Potedand village in the Baikunthpur development block, Shyambai has
strengthened her family’s financial situation through support from the National Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihan) and her own hard work. Earning an annual income of over 1.25 lakh rupees from her clothing business, she has earned the name “Lakhpati Didi.”
Before joining the group, Shyambai’s family relied on farming and manual labor for their livelihood. Meeting household needs with limited income was challenging. She wanted to start her own business to supplement her family’s income. Joining the Gauri Mahila Self-Help Group provided her with the opportunity to move forward.
- Shyambai, who started a textile business with financial support,
received ₹60,000 from the Community Investment Fund (CIF) through the group and ₹20,000 as a bank loan. With this financial support, she and her husband started a textile business. Initially, they traveled from village to village selling textiles.
Understanding the needs of his customers, he grew his business. His hard work, good manners, and dedication to his work earned him customer trust and improved his income.

As her business grew, Shyambai opened a clothing store in her village. This provided her with a permanent location to operate her business. Now, she earns over 1.25 lakh rupees annually from the shop and clothing sales.
