Green manure is becoming an effective alternative to urea, demonstration in 600 hectares in Jashpur

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, significant initiatives are being taken to promote sustainable and organic farming in Chhattisgarh. In this regard, the use of green manure is being encouraged in Jashpur district to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and increase soil fertility.
The Agriculture Department is conducting green manure demonstrations across 600 hectares in all development blocks of Jashpur district this year. Farmers have been urged to contact the field staff of the Agriculture Department and adopt green manure techniques, which will improve soil health and ensure long-term productivity.

Under green manure, crops such as dhaincha, sunn hemp, green gram, black gram, and berseem are grown in the field and then plowed and incorporated into the soil after 40 to 50 days. The main crop is then sown 2 to 3 weeks later. This process replenishes natural nutrients in the soil. The
use of green manure increases the amount of nitrogen, potash, and other essential nutrients in the soil, as well as increases organic matter. This improves the soil’s water-holding capacity and makes the soil loose and more fertile. Adopting green manure reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, especially urea.
According to experts, the use of green manure is a low-cost, high-yield solution that helps protect the environment and increase farmers’ income. The state government’s efforts in this direction are proving crucial in making farmers self-reliant and farming more sustainable.
