- Pure drinking water reaches every home, rural development gains new momentum
- 350 families got relief from water crisis
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the Chhattisgarh government is continuously making effective efforts to expand basic amenities in rural areas and make life easier for the people. As a result of these efforts, Barwasan Gram Panchayat, which falls under the Marwahi development block of the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, has today become a new example of development and prosperity thanks to the “Jal Jeevan Mission.” This village, once grappling with a severe drinking water crisis, now brims with confidence and satisfaction with the availability of pure drinking water in every home.
The effective implementation of the Government of India’s ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission is transforming rural life in the Gram Panchayat of Barwasan. Located approximately 16 kilometers from the district headquarters, this village with a population of 1,367 now has regular access to clean and safe drinking water for all 350 households, providing a permanent solution to a long-standing problem for the villagers.
- Modern water supply system at a cost of Rs 1.38 crore
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, robust drinking water infrastructure has been developed in the village of Barwasan at a cost of approximately ₹138.75 million. Under the scheme, a 12-meter-high overhead tank (high-level tank) with a capacity of 40,000 liters and five GI structure tanks with a capacity of 10,000 liters each have been constructed. This creates a total water storage capacity of 90,000 liters in the village. For the past six months, this well-organized system has provided pure drinking water to villagers at their homes. This has not only ensured water availability, but has also significantly improved the regularity and quality of water supply.
- The compulsion to wander for water has ended
Before the implementation of this scheme, the villagers of Barwasan, especially women, had to travel long distances to obtain water. Fetching water from hand pumps and other distant sources wasted considerable time and effort. The challenges were exacerbated during the summer, when they had to wait for hours for drinking water. Now, with tap connections reaching every home, this problem has been completely eliminated. Villagers now have access to clean drinking water at home, enhancing both convenience and dignity in their lives.
- Great relief for women, increased focus on children’s education
Village resident Mrs. Urmila explains that previously, one had to travel to a distant hand pump to fetch water, which was both time-consuming and energy-consuming. Now, with access to pure tap water at home, daily life has become much easier. Villagers say that the Jal Jeevan Mission has not only solved the water problem, but has also given women the opportunity to become self-reliant and devote time to other productive family pursuits. Furthermore, children no longer have to waste time fetching water, allowing them to focus more on their studies and sports.
- Positive changes in health, hygiene and standard of living
The 24-hour availability of pure drinking water has increased awareness about hygiene and health in the village. The risk of waterborne diseases caused by contaminated water has significantly decreased and hygiene habits have been promoted among the people. The availability of safe drinking water is bringing a significant and positive change to the overall quality of life of the villagers.
- Rural development among the priorities of the Chief Minister
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the state government is giving top priority to expanding basic amenities in rural areas. Through the Jal Jeevan Mission, the campaign to provide safe drinking water to remote and tribal areas of the state is progressing on a war footing. The state government’s primary objective is to make the lives of every rural family healthier, more comfortable, and dignified by providing them with safe drinking water.
- Barwasan becomes a new example of development
This success of Gram Panchayat Barwasan demonstrates that when public welfare schemes are implemented effectively and transparently, their direct benefits reach the last person. The Jal Jeevan Mission has not only provided Barwasan with water, but also the new gift of improved health, time savings, modern conveniences, and a secure future. Today, this village has emerged as an inspiring example of rural development and is a living example of the success of the government’s public-friendly policies.
