A unique initiative for education and environmental protection through play.

  • The Butterfly organization spread smiles on the faces of Anganwadi children.

Friday at the Anganwadi Centre was a very different day from the usual days, full of creativity and energy. The team of the voluntary organisation Titli Sanstha, together with the little children of the Anganwadi Centres, conducted some unique and practical activities which not only brought a big smile on the faces of the children but also laid a strong foundation for their mental development and environmental protection. The main objective of this special programme organised by the organisation was to promote education through play and sensitivity towards nature, so that children can stay away from the burden of bookish knowledge and learn something new and lasting. With this thought in mind, at the beginning of the programme, the children were taught the beautiful art of paper art.

Under the expert guidance of the members of the Butterfly organization, the children learned to fold colorful paper into beautiful toys. This activity honed their motor skills and creativity, while also enhancing their excitement and joy at seeing their own handmade toys. After this paper craft, the children were introduced to a unique and practical world of mathematics. Leaving behind the traditional and boring method of rote learning, they learned to count using natural materials found in their surroundings, such as dry leaves and small pebbles.

The greatest benefit of this playful counting is that this practical approach makes the understanding of numbers permanent and simple. Connecting this journey of education and creativity with nature, a Friday Plantation Campaign was launched on this special Friday. As part of this, the organization members explained to the children the importance of plants and the environment in a simple and engaging language. After this, the children themselves planted saplings with their tiny hands and also took a pledge to take care of those saplings with great enthusiasm.

Expressing their happiness over this successful event, a representative from the Titli organization said that the mental development of Anganwadi children is accelerated most rapidly through play and hands-on experiences. Only when children connect with nature from an early age will they become vigilant protectors of the environment. The bright smiles on the children’s faces today are the biggest success of this entire campaign. Overall, this event has become a shining example of how, through proper guidance and creative thinking, both children’s futures and the environment can be simultaneously protected at the grassroots level.
