- Children from special backward tribes are getting swimming lessons from national level coaches.
- Chhattisgarh government’s tribal-friendly policies are nurturing the sports talents of the forest region.
Under the Chhattisgarh government’s tribal-friendly policies and the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, continuous meaningful efforts are being made to nurture the talents of children from remote areas of the state. In this regard, a district-level summer sports training camp organized in the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district is opening doors to new possibilities for children from the Baiga community, a uniquely backward tribe. Living amidst forests and mountains, Baiga boys and girls are now learning modern swimming skills in the swimming pool and giving new direction to their dreams.
This special training camp was organized by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department at the swimming pool of the Pendra Municipal Council. Children from the Baiga community living in the remote forest areas of the aspirational development block Gaurela have been prioritized. The district administration and departmental officials personally visited the villages to motivate Baiga families and connect the children with this camp.
- “The opportunity has boosted their confidence.”
For these children, who live among natural water sources, rivers, streams, and forests, this swimming pool experience is a completely new one. Here, they are not only learning to swim, but also inculcating discipline, self-confidence, and a competitive sports culture. The children receiving training say they have never practiced in such a large swimming pool before. They are extremely excited to learn the technical aspects of swimming and dream of becoming great athletes in the future.
- ‘Guidance from national level coaches’

In this summer camp, children are being taught the nuances of swimming by national level coaches. During the training, the players are being given rigorous practice in competitive disciplines like free-style, back-stroke, butterfly-stroke, breast-stroke and medley. Through these sessions conducted in two shifts, morning and evening, the children’s physical ability, technical proficiency and sportsmanship are being continuously developed. Coaches believe that Baiga children have natural physical ability, courage and a strong desire to learn, which can make them excellent players of the future.
- “A major step towards tribal empowerment.”
Children from the Baiga community, a particularly backward tribe, are blessed with remarkable stamina and unmatched physical abilities due to their upbringing in difficult geographical conditions. If provided with proper guidance, resources, and opportunities, they can excel at the state, national, and international levels. This effort by the district administration to integrate these children into the mainstream sports is not only a milestone in sports development, but also a living example of social inclusion and tribal empowerment.
- “Tribal youth among Chief Minister’s priorities.”
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the state government is expanding opportunities for education, sports, health, and skill development, especially in tribal areas. The government is committed to ensuring that no talented child from remote areas is left behind due to lack of resources. Engaging children from the Baiga community in sports activities is a direct testament to the government’s inclusive development policy, which is not only developing children’s personalities but also instilling in them the confidence to achieve greater goals.
- “A New Wave of Dreams.”
Once confined to the forests and hills, Baiga children are now confidently tackling the waves in swimming pools. This positive change is not merely the result of sports training, but the culmination of the government’s sensitive approach, the district administration’s commitment, and the children’s hard work.
This summer sports training camp has emerged as a golden opportunity for Baiga children, one that could change the course of their lives. In the years to come, these children will represent the state and country on international platforms, bringing glory to Chhattisgarh and India as a whole. This is the primary objective of this event.
