Jashpur model becomes centre of national identity in PM Dhan-Dhanya Agriculture Scheme

  • The Central Government appreciated the efforts for agricultural innovation, water conservation and increasing farmer income.

The Government of India has praised the innovations being implemented in Jashpur district for agricultural development, water conservation, and increasing farmers’ income under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana. Mr. P. Amblangan (IAS), Joint Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department and Central Nodal Officer for the scheme, reviewed the district via video conferencing, calling the Jashpur model effective, visionary, and farmer-friendly.

The review meeting presented the achievements of the year 2025-26 and the action plan for the year 2026-27. The action plan prepared by the district administration prioritizes cluster development of aromatic and medicinal crops, promotion of contract farming, expansion of the area under Jeera Phool rice, exportable rice clusters, community seed banks, drone-based agricultural services, custom hiring centers, and value addition and marketing of agricultural products.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the 2026-27 Kharif season. Officials stated that adequate availability of seeds and fertilizers is being ensured for farmers. Keeping in mind potential El Niño conditions, the cultivation of coarse grains, pulses, and oilseeds, along with short-duration rice varieties, is being promoted to ensure production is not affected despite weather challenges.

Providing information about water conservation and groundwater enrichment projects being conducted in the district under the Water Conservation Public Participation Campaign, officials stated that effective work is being done to strengthen water resources through coordinated efforts by various departments. Praising these efforts, Joint Secretary Mr. Amblangan said that water conservation is the foundation for long-term sustainability of agriculture and expansion of irrigation facilities.

He directed the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Cooperatives, and Rural Development to work in coordination with each other. He also emphasized prioritizing Kisan Credit Cards, natural farming, agricultural mechanization, empowerment of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), value addition, and market linkage activities.

Mr. Anbalagan stated that to sustainably increase farmers’ income, it is essential to give equal importance to agriculture-based entrepreneurship, modern technology, processing, and marketing, along with increasing production. He commended the innovations underway in the district and stressed the need for effective implementation of the action plan.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, efforts to increase farmers’ income, promote agricultural diversification, natural farming, water conservation, and agriculture-based entrepreneurship in Jashpur are now gaining national recognition. This is expected to provide farmers with the benefits of modern technologies and further strengthen their economic situation.
