A meeting of the state-level committee, constituted to review the effective implementation of the Chhattisgarh Alcohol De-addiction Campaign (Bharat Mata Vahini Scheme) and the upcoming action plan, was held today at the Ministry of Alcoholism, Mahanadi Bhawan, Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Shahla Nigar, Principal Secretary of the Social Welfare Department.

Senior officials and representatives from various departments, including Director of the Social Welfare Department, Mr. Ranveer Sharma, were present at the meeting. The meeting reviewed the compliance report of the previous meeting of the State Level Committee on October 6, 2023. Furthermore, proposals regarding the formation and expansion of Bharat Mata Vahini in new Gram Panchayats with a population of more than 1,000 in each development block were discussed, so that the de-addiction campaign could be made more effective at the rural level.

The committee suggested increasing the capacity of 15 bed integrated rehabilitation centres operated for rehabilitation of drug addicts from 15 to 50 beds. While reviewing the current status of the centres, it was also decided that in the districts where such centres are not operational, necessary action will be ensured for their establishment and operation. Under this, initiative will also be taken towards opening new de-addiction centres in 5 districts of the state.

5 new de-addiction centres will be opened in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, Sukma, Bemetara, Korba districts.

The meeting also discussed proposals to install CCTV cameras and biometric attendance systems to ensure effective monitoring and transparency of de-addiction centers. The committee believes this will make the centers’ operations more accountable and transparent.

On this occasion, the work and expenditures incurred under the campaign during the financial years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 were also reviewed. Furthermore, proposals related to the action plan for the financial year 2026-27, the availability of necessary human resources, and administrative requirements were discussed in detail.

The meeting also emphasized the need to ensure the active participation of groups formed under the scheme in the effective implementation of NCORD and NMBA. The committee stated that the participation of all departments, social organizations, and the community is essential for creating a drug-free society.

During the meeting, special emphasis was laid on strengthening departmental coordination, improving the quality of rehabilitation services and conducting community-based public awareness activities on a large scale with the aim of creating a drug-free and healthy society.
