Capacity Building Workshop for Scientific and Holistic Revitalization of Betwa River under Namami Gange Mission

  • Training should be practical, meaningful and effective: Minister of State Smt. Bagri

A two-day capacity building workshop on preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Scientific and Holistic Rejuvenation of Betwa River under Namami Gange Mission was inaugurated in Bhopal by the Department of Urban Development and Housing under the chief hospitality of Minister of State Smt. Pratima Bagri.

Minister of State Smt. Bagri said that rivers in India are not only sources of water, but centers of life and culture. Common people consider the water of rivers to be the most pure and holy. He said that the training given in the workshop on preparation of DPR should be practical, meaningful and effective, so that future projects can successfully fulfill the objectives of river protection.

State Minister Smt. Bagri said that while preparing the DPR, utilization of natural resources and their conservation should be given top priority. He said that the basic purpose of worshiping nature in Sanatan culture is to protect the environment, because without rivers and trees the idea of ​​life is not possible. Trees naturally play an important role in keeping rivers clean. He also laid special emphasis on regular cleaning of rain drains and said that this helps effectively in protecting the rivers from pollution. He wished for the successful organization of the multi-purpose workshop.

Shri Brijendra Swaroop, Executive Director of National Clean Ganga Mission, said that under the Namami Ganga Mission, special efforts are being made to protect and revive the tributaries of Ganga, especially the Betwa River. He said that Namami Gange Mission is working in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He highlighted the importance of five major pillars of the mission—Aviral Ganga, Nirmal Ganga, Jan Ganga, Gyan Ganga and Artha Ganga.

Urban Development and Housing Commissioner Shri Sanket Bhondve welcomed all the invited subject experts and said that this two-day workshop organized under the Namami Gange program will prove to be a milestone for the revival of Betwa River.

Mr. Dheeraj Joshi, Director of Namami Gange Mission expressed his vote of thanks in the program. Chief Engineer Shri Pradeep Mishra was also present on this occasion. The program was coordinated by Environment Specialist Mr. Sitaram Tagore.
