- Jal Jeevan Mission has transformed Phulabai Ji’s life, bringing respect and assurance of a healthy and prosperous future to every drop of water.
There was a time when Phulabai’s daily routine began with the search for water at the first rays of dawn. Before household chores, carrying a pot on her head to a distant well, waiting in a long queue for her turn, and then returning home with heavy pots of water was part of her daily routine. Fetching water wasn’t just a responsibility; each day was a long saga of time, effort, and struggle.
Today, looking at the clean water flowing from the tap in her courtyard, Phulabai smiles and says, “Now, it feels like our lives have truly changed.”
In Barauta Gram Panchayat, Bharatpur, the Public Health Engineering Department’s “Tap Water to Every Home” scheme, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, has brought about a profound change in the lives of villagers, solving age-old problems. Now, clean and safe drinking water is regularly delivered to homes, making their lives much easier, safer, and more dignified than before.
Phulabai explains that previously, fetching water used to take several hours a day. During the summer, problems worsened when the water levels in water sources dropped. Often, even after traveling long distances, we couldn’t find enough water. This water-related worry would disrupt other important household tasks and place additional burdens on the women in the family.
Now, with a tap connection at home under the Jal Jeevan Mission, this worry has been completely eliminated. Having access to clean drinking water at home saves both time and labor. All family members are getting safe water, which has reduced health risks. Now, Phulabai is able to devote more time to her family, children, and other household chores. She says emotionally, “Earlier, we had to make several trips daily to fetch water. Now, we get clean water directly from our tap. Our biggest problem has been solved. This facility is like a dream come true for us.”
Phulabai explains that the benefits of this scheme are not limited to her family, but have benefited the entire village. Women’s hard work has reduced, children and the elderly have easy access to clean drinking water, and awareness about sanitation and health has also increased in the village. This transformation in the living standards of the villagers is a direct proof of the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh for this public welfare scheme, she says that the government has fulfilled a long-standing need of rural families. Today, village women are free from the worry of water and are able to focus more on family, children’s education, and livelihood-related tasks. The effective implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the district by the Public Health Engineering Department is writing a new chapter in rural development. This scheme is not only an initiative to provide tap connections to every household, but has also become a powerful medium for women’s dignity, better health, time savings, social change, and improved quality of rural life.
The story of Phulabai ji of Barauta village is a living example of how, when government schemes reach the last person with sensitivity and commitment, they not only provide services but also write a new chapter of confidence, self-respect, and prosperity in people’s lives. Every drop of water from the Jal Jeevan Mission today tells the story of a bright future for rural India.
