- Zero electricity bill for seven months, saving thousands of rupees every month
The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is becoming an effective means of economic relief and energy self-sufficiency for ordinary citizens in the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district. Through the scheme, people are not only achieving significant savings on their electricity bills by adopting clean energy, but are also playing an important role in environmental protection. Mr. Ashish Majumdar, a resident of the district’s development block, Manendragarh, has emerged as an inspiring example.
About seven months ago, Mr. Ashish Majumdar installed a solar rooftop system on his home under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Under the scheme, he received a subsidy of ₹78,000 from the Government of India and ₹30,000 from the Chhattisgarh government, significantly reducing the cost of installing the solar plant. This financial support inspired him to adopt clean and affordable energy.
Ashish Majumdar explains that before installing the solar system, his monthly electricity bill averaged 2,000 to 3,000 rupees on normal days, while during the summer, it would rise to around 5,000 rupees due to increased use of air conditioners and other electrical appliances. However, after installing the solar rooftop system, his electricity bill has been zero for the past seven months. This translates into monthly savings of thousands of rupees, which has strengthened his family’s financial situation.
He explained that most of his household’s electricity needs are now met by solar energy. He uses the savings on his electricity bill for his children’s education, household needs, and future plans. Furthermore, reducing his dependence on fossil fuels ensures his contribution to environmental protection. Expressing his gratitude to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, Ashish Majumdar said that the Prime Minister’s Free Solar Household Electricity Scheme is proving extremely beneficial for middle-class and ordinary families. He urged other citizens of the district to take advantage of this scheme and install solar rooftop systems in their homes. He said that once a solar plant is installed, the worry of electricity bills is largely eliminated for years, providing lasting financial relief to the family.
The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is not only promoting clean energy in the district but also increasing public confidence in renewable energy. This scheme is not only ensuring savings on electricity bills but also making a significant contribution towards building an energy-reliant India and a green future.
