Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the Agriculture Department is continuously making efforts through various schemes to increase farmers’ income and make farming profitable. Farmers are being encouraged to cultivate Rabi crops along with Kharif crops, so they can earn additional income by making better use of available resources.

Mr. Keena Ram, a farmer from Sogda village in the Manora development block of Jashpur district, is a successful example of this initiative. Despite limited agricultural land, he has increased his income by cultivating wheat in both the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
Mr. Keena Ram explained that he began cultivating Rabi crops under the guidance of the Agriculture Department’s Rural Agricultural Extension Officer. National Food

Under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) scheme, he was provided with a subsidized variety of improved wheat seed for one acre of land.
He prepared the field thoroughly, applied adequate cow dung manure, and implemented timely irrigation and weed management. As a result, the crop suffered minimal pest and disease infestation, and achieved a good wheat yield.

Mr. Keena Ram explained that he owns a total of 0.800 hectares of agricultural land. Previously, he cultivated paddy only during the Kharif season and left his fields fallow during the Rabi season. This forced him to purchase wheat from the market. Now, by cultivating wheat during the Rabi season, he provides quality grain for his family and also generates income by selling surplus produce.

This has not only fulfilled the food needs of the family but has also strengthened the financial condition.
Farmer Shri Keena Ram has appealed to other farmers to adopt cultivation of wheat, pulses and oilseeds crops in Rabi season along with Kharif. He said that Rabi crop is a better option for earning better income at low cost and in less time. He also expressed gratitude to the Agriculture Department and Chhattisgarh Government for their guidance and support.
