- Thousands of people are benefiting from de-addiction, yoga, disability assistance and pension schemes.
In Bijapur district, the joint efforts of the Social Welfare Department and various organizations are bringing positive changes to people’s lives through de-addiction, yoga, disability rehabilitation, and social security schemes. Thousands of beneficiaries in the district are directly benefiting from these schemes.
- 112 people got a new lease of life from the de-addiction centre.
The Gundadhur Seva Sansthan Samiti has been operating a de-addiction center in the district since December 12, 2024. Here, people suffering from drug addiction are treated under the supervision of specialist doctors and counselors. So far, 112 people have been freed from drug addiction through yoga, meditation, therapy, psychological counseling, and medical treatment.
- Yoga promotes awareness and healthy lifestyle

The Chhattisgarh Yoga Commission is regularly organizing yoga training camps in remote and tribal areas of the district. Trained youth have been assigned the responsibility of providing yoga training in village panchayats, ashram schools, and hostels. Children in schools and hostels are regularly practicing yoga, which is improving their physical and mental development.
- Assistive devices for the disabled
The Social Welfare Department is providing various assistive devices to make people with disabilities self-reliant. In the 2025-26 fiscal year, 13 tricycles, 11 battery-operated tricycles, 26 wheelchairs, 251 crutches, 185 walking sticks, 135 hearing aids, and 8 Braille canes were distributed in the district.
- Children benefit from special schools and rehabilitation centers
Eighteen students are receiving residential education and training at the Special School for Intellectually Retarded Children in Bijapur, run by the Social Welfare Department. Through the Samarth District Disability Rehabilitation Center, disabled children are provided free inclusive education, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and psychological counseling. Nutritious meals and snacks are also provided to the children.
- More than 12 thousand beneficiaries are getting pension
Under the Social Assistance Program, 12,379 beneficiaries in the district are taking advantage of various pension schemes. Senior citizens, disabled individuals, widows, and abandoned women are receiving a monthly pension of Rs 500, which helps them meet their daily needs.
- Work on third gender and UDID cards is also ongoing.

Thirteen third gender beneficiaries have been identified in the district. Identity cards have been issued for five of these individuals, while the process for the remaining is ongoing. In 2025-26, 176 disability certificates and 79 UID cards were issued.
- Scholarships to encourage disabled students
In the financial year 2025-26, scholarships were awarded to 839 disabled students in the district. This is encouraging their education and moving them towards becoming self-reliant.
- Social development is being strengthened by public welfare schemes
These Social Welfare Department schemes are providing a new impetus to social security and inclusive development in Bijapur district.
