- Nagari-Sihawa will become a new global center for religious and natural tourism
‘Nagri-Sihawa’, the origin area of the holy Mahanadi, considered the lifeline of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, is now going to get a new and grand identity. The district administration has geared up to strongly highlight this area, which boasts natural beauty, historical heritage and immense religious faith, on the tourism map. In this connection, the Collector of Dhamtari visited the famous Mahamaya temple complex located in village Farsia of Nagari development block and closely inspected the beautification and development works going on there.
- A new ray of development in the Mahamaya temple complex
Work is underway at a war footing at the Mahamaya Temple complex to enhance facilities for devotees and double the site’s appeal. The installation of solar lights to illuminate the complex has been successfully completed. Paver block construction, the development of an attractive park, the provision of seating arrangements for devotees, and the planting of coconut trees are underway within the temple complex. The sacred pond located within the complex recently underwent extensive cleaning. The Collector has directed that the necessary repairs and conservation work on this historic pond be completed within a timeframe to preserve its religious sanctity.
- 17 kilometer long Mahanadi conservation campaign
The Mahanadi is not just a river, but the foundation of the culture and life of this entire region. With the three-pronged collaboration of the district administration, local public representatives, and the Megha Foundation, the Mahanadi Cleanliness and Conservation Campaign is being conducted within a 17-kilometer radius. Under this campaign, extensive cleaning of the river banks is being carried out, and coconut trees are being planted extensively to enhance the environment. Having the opportunity to conserve and develop this site of historical and religious significance is a matter of pride for all. The primary objective is to preserve cultural identity while simultaneously achieving development.
The administration has prepared an ambitious action plan to develop the confluence of Ganesh Ghat, the Ganesh Temple, and the Saptarishi area of Nagari-Sihawa, at a cost of ₹20 crore (approximately $200 million).
- Key future plans and potential benefits
The extensive beautification of the Ganesh Ghat confluence site will become a major tourist attraction. Strong infrastructure development will provide visitors with world-class amenities. Expanding tourism facilities in line with public sentiment will boost the local economy and employment.
- New employment opportunities will be available
The most remarkable aspect of this entire project is that it is not limited to tourism alone, but is directly linked to the rural economy. The completion of these developments will provide a new impetus to tourism activities in the region. New employment opportunities will arise for local youth, including guides, homestays, handicrafts, and shopkeeping. Rural and local businesses will be strengthened.
