- was honored with the Human Rights Hero Award.
Under the guidance and leadership of Director General of Police Shri Kailash Makwana, the innovations being made by Madhya Pradesh Police in the field of human rights based and people-centric policing have received significant recognition at the international level. In this order, it is a matter of great honor and respect for Madhya Pradesh Police that DIG (Community Policing) Dr. Vineet Kapoor was invited as a speaker at the World Human Rights Summit held at the United Nations headquarters. Among representatives of more than 70 countries of the world, policy-makers, police officers, academics and human rights experts, he presented the innovations, best practices and people-centric policing model developed by the Madhya Pradesh Police in the field of human rights-based police training and community policing on the global stage.
In his address, Dr. Vineet Kapoor said that Madhya Pradesh Police has made the fundamental spirit of the Indian Constitution and universal principles of human rights an integral part of police training, capacity building and working culture of policing. He said that sensitive, accountable and citizen-centric policing is the strongest foundation for effective law and order, good governance and public trust.
Mentioning the innovative community policing initiatives of Madhya Pradesh Police like Mahila Help Desk, Shakti Samitiyas and project creation, he said that these initiatives have achieved remarkable success in ensuring access to justice to women, children and underprivileged sections of the society, effective intervention in cases of sexual violence and child protection and giving new direction to community based policing. These initiatives were particularly appreciated as effective, inclusive and exemplary models in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-16).
Dr. Kapoor also mentioned the state-wide mass-awareness campaign “Nashe Se Dastar Hai Mazhoori” conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Police. He urged the representatives of various countries present at the United Nations headquarters to convey the message of drug addiction. The representatives of various countries and human rights experts while conveying the message of “Say No to Drugs” appreciated the public awareness campaign being conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Police against drugs and described it as an exemplary initiative in the interest of the society.
During the conference, Madhya Pradesh Police’s human rights oriented training system, capacity building, community engagement and people-centric policing were widely appreciated. Representatives from various countries described these initiatives as effective examples of modern democratic policing and considered them as models worth sharing at the global level.
DIG (Community Policing) Dr. Vineet Kapoor was honored with the “Human Rights Hero Award” for his remarkable and long-term contribution in the field of human rights punishment, police training and community-based awareness. This honor is a symbol of his personal dedication, visionary leadership and innovations as well as the international recognition of the humane, sensitive and people-oriented functioning of the Madhya Pradesh Police.
This award is a global recognition of Madhya Pradesh Police’s people-centric working style, innovation and excellent policing. The remarkable work done by the Madhya Pradesh Police in areas such as human rights protection, community policing, public participation and police capacity development is a matter of pride for the region.
