On the evening of the first Monday of Sawan, the banks of Dhamtari’s Chitrotpala Mahanadi became not just a stream of water, but a vibrant confluence of devotion, culture, and spirituality. Following the example of Kashi, when the grand “Mahanadi Ganga Aarti” was inaugurated for the first time amidst the golden glow of 108 lamps, the entire Rudri Ghat was filled with supernatural spiritual energy with the sound of conch shells, Vedic mantras, and the ringing of bells. This historic effort by the Dhamtari Youth Brigade and the Shri Rudreshwar Mahadev family has given a new direction to the city’s cultural consciousness. Now, this sacred festival of public faith will be celebrated on the banks of the Mahanadi every Monday of Sawan.
Amidst this spiritual atmosphere of devotion, another great news has arrived for Dhamtari. The state government’s Culture and Tourism Department has pledged to implement an ambitious Rs 20 crore project to rejuvenate the ancient Rudreshwar Mahadev temple complex. Through this project, Rudreshwar Dham will be developed as a modern and eco-friendly religious-cultural tourist centre, which will give national recognition to the heritage of Chhattisgarh.

This master plan presents a perfect balance of ancient architecture and modern amenities. While preserving the temple’s traditional Indian architectural style, a grand main entrance, impressive spires, arches, lamp pillars, and a massive Nandi statue will be constructed. Wide walkways, restrooms, Prasad and Memorial Centers, food courts, safe ghats, and a digital information system will be provided for devotees. AI-based health kiosks will also be installed along with healthcare facilities within the complex. Similarly, gardens, cultural pavilions, riverfront cottages, an open-air stage, and a picturesque waterfront modeled after the future ‘Marine Drive’ will be developed within the complex. Keeping environmental protection in mind, solar-powered parking, EV charging stations, rainwater harvesting, and scientific waste management will be implemented.
The event, inaugurated in the august presence of MLA Shri Omkar Sahu, Mayor Shri Jagdish Ramu Rohra, Collector and former MLA Smt. Ranjana Sahu, and several other dignitaries, symbolizes a new era of social and economic development in Dhamtari. The uninterrupted flow of Mahanadi Ganga Aarti and the overall development of Rudreshwar Dham together will not only promote religious tourism but will also give a new dimension to local business, employment and public participation.
