Homestay tourism in Jashpur is giving a boost to the rural economy

  • The district administration’s initiative has paid off, with tourists increasingly flocking to experience local culture and rural life.

Under the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, significant initiatives are being taken in Jashpur district to link tourism development with rural livelihoods. Homestays being developed in rural areas and major tourist destinations are now becoming a new source of employment and income for locals, as well as a powerful means of promoting Jashpur’s rich tribal culture, traditional cuisine, and rural lifestyle to tourists from across the country and the world.

The rural homestay developed in Kere village, near Deshdekha, a major tourist destination in the district, has gained special recognition. Astronaut and Ashok Chakra awardee Group Captain Shri Shubhanshu Shukla visited the homestay on February 4, 2026, and Governor Shri Ramen Deka visited on April 4, 2026. Both distinguished guests tasted traditional dishes prepared by the women of the Deshdekha community and experienced the local tribal culture, life, and hospitality traditions. This has given new recognition to the potential of rural tourism.

  • Kere village is being developed as a model community tourism village.

The Homestays of India team is working tirelessly with the district administration to promote rural and community tourism in Jashpur. An agreement signed on January 25, 2026, between Homestays of India, the Chhattisgarh government, and the Jashpur district administration, has led to the development of Kere village as a model community tourism village.

This initiative aims to connect tourists with local rural life, food, traditions, culture, and nature, rather than limiting them to sightseeing. This brings the benefits of tourism directly to rural communities.

  • New employment and income opportunities for local people

The district currently has homestays developed and listed at various tourist destinations, including Kere, Chhichli, Dangari, Mayali, and Ghoghara (Balajhar). These homestays provide rural families with the opportunity to earn income through accommodation and hospitality services, local cuisine, guiding, nature walks, and other tourism activities.

The increasing trend of tourists is not only strengthening the rural economy but is also showing positive results in women empowerment, local employment generation, cultural preservation and reducing migration from rural areas.

  • Tourism activities related to nature and culture

Jashpur’s homestays offer tourists a unique opportunity to experience nature. Activities include trekking, nature walks, bird watching, camping, rock climbing, village tours, participation in agricultural work, and experiences of traditional cuisine and tribal culture.

Through these activities, tourists are able to closely know about the natural beauty of Jashpur as well as its folk traditions, food habits, lifestyle and community life.

  • Steps towards bringing Jashpur’s identity on the national tourism map

Jashpur, with its lush green valleys, mountains, waterfalls, rivers, forests, and rich tribal culture, is rapidly gaining recognition as one of Chhattisgarh’s leading tourist destinations. The homestay model has made this tourism development more inclusive and sustainable by linking it with local livelihoods.

Thanks to these initiatives by the district administration, tourism in Jashpur is becoming more than just a leisure activity, but also a vehicle for rural employment, women’s empowerment, local entrepreneurship, and cultural preservation. In the future, the expansion of homestays and community tourism is expected to create even more employment opportunities in Jashpur’s rural areas.
