Capital Raipur to now be powered directly by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Station, Marwa

  • Marwa plant connected to the capital’s supply grid
  • 220 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) double-circuit line commissioned from 400 kV Rayta substation to Daldalsivni
  • Benefits to extend to domestic consumers as well as industrial areas of Urla, Siltara, and Metal Park

The Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company has achieved a significant milestone in strengthening and enhancing the reliability of the power supply system in the state capital, Raipur. A 220 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) double-circuit transmission line, spanning approximately 27 kilometers from the 400 kV Rayta (Dharsiva) substation to the under-construction 220 kV substation at Daldalsivni (Raipur), has been successfully commissioned. This connects Raipur’s supply grid directly to the Marwa plant.
Constructed at a cost of approximately ₹40 crore, this line will enable the direct sourcing of about 40 percent of the capital’s electricity supply from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Station in Marwa (Janjgir-Champa district). Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has congratulated and extended his best wishes to the Chhattisgarh State Power Companies for this achievement. Meanwhile, Chairman Shri Subodh Kumar Singh congratulated the company’s officers and employees, describing the development as a significant step towards bolstering Raipur’s power infrastructure.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Station, Marwa, operates two modern thermal power generation units, each with a capacity of 500 MW. The electricity demand in the capital, Raipur, typically ranges from 500 MW to 700 MW. With the commissioning of the new line, this demand can now be met directly from the Marwa Thermal Power Station. This will ensure a higher quality and more reliable power supply for domestic and non-domestic consumers, as well as for the industrial areas located at Urla, Siltara, and Metal Park. Mr. Rajesh Kumar Shukla, Managing Director of the Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company, successfully completed the charging process for this new line from the Raita substation with a single click on the computer. The line traverses various areas, including Kushal, Siliari, Pathri, Tor, Barbanda, Nevra, Matiya, Dondekhurd, Semariya, Girholi, Mandhar, Giroud, Baroda, Tekri, and Urkura.

Construction of a 220/132/33 kV substation with a capacity of 2×160 MVA in the eastern part of Daldalsevni is in its final stages. Its imminent commissioning will further strengthen the high-voltage power infrastructure of the capital, Raipur, and directly benefit over 50,000 electricity consumers.
Company officials—including Mr. Sanjay Patel, Mr. Prasanna Goswami, Additional Chief Engineers Mr. R.K. Tiwari and Mr. Ishwar Kanwar, Superintending Engineer Mr. V.A. Deshmukh, and Executive Engineers Mr. U.K. Yadav, Mr. Sudhanshu Tripathi, and Mr. Suchindra Uike—along with other officers and staff members, were present on the occasion.
