‘Rural livelihoods will receive a new boost, 174 farmers in Korea received 1,020 bags of improved fish seed.’

  • ‘Lakhpati didis’ livelihood will increase their additional income from the ponds’

The Korea district administration is continuously making efforts to strengthen the rural economy and increase the income of farmers and women self-help groups. In this connection, under the guidance of Collector Mrs. Roktima Yadav and the efforts of District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mr. Yogendra Shrivas, 1020 bags of improved fish seeds were distributed to 174 farmers of the district under the joint auspices of VB-Gram-G Yojana, National Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihan) and Fisheries Department.

  • “Fish farming in livelihood ponds will increase women’s income.”

With the aim of economically empowering rural women, members of Bihan women self-help groups have been linked to the “Livelihood Pond Scheme.” To promote fish farming in the ponds constructed under the scheme, the Fisheries Department, on the instructions of Collector Mrs. Roktima Yadav, provided subsidy-based fish seeds to the beneficiaries.

The total 174 beneficiaries include 68 livelihood pond beneficiaries and 106 other farmers. Other beneficiaries have access to ponds, Amrit Sarovar, or individual ponds. Fish farming will provide them with an opportunity to earn additional income alongside their agriculture.

Fish seed distribution took place in Baikunthpur and Sonhat.
Fish seed distribution programs were held in the Gauge area of Baikunthpur Block and the Amhar area of Sonhat Block. Under the scheme, beneficiaries deposited a voluntary contribution of just ₹140 per bag.

Along with promoting fish production in the district, efforts are also being made to ensure producers receive fair prices for their produce. A cluster-level approach is being developed for this purpose. Under this initiative, clusters of fish-producing farmers and women’s groups will be formed, connecting them directly to large traders and markets.

This will reduce the role of middlemen and ensure producers receive better prices for their produce. Promoting collective fish production and marketing will also create new employment and income opportunities in rural areas.

This initiative of the district administration will help in increasing the income of rural families by linking agriculture, women self-help groups and fisheries and will also strengthen the local economy.
