Government is committed to protection and conservation of cow breed: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

  • The Chief Minister distributed Rs 109.79 crore subsidy from DBT to gaushalas

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav informed about the efforts being made by the state government for the protection and conservation of cow breed under Chief Minister Jan Vishwas Abhiyan. He said that the government of Madhya Pradesh is committed to the protection, conservation and better management of the cow breed. 3,212 registered gaushalas operating in the state are providing regular subsidy for feeding and management of more than 5.20 lakh cows.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the subsidy given for the feeding of cows available in gaushalas has been increased to Rs 40 per cow per day. A budget provision of Rs.620.50 crore has been made for distribution of subsidy to gaushalas in the financial year 2026-27. He said that the government is paying special attention to provide necessary resources for better management of gaushalas and proper protection of cow breed.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that single click DBT system has been implemented to make the system of providing subsidy to gaushalas more transparent and easy. Through this, the subsidy amount is being transferred directly to the bank accounts of the gaushalas. This has ensured timeliness and good governance with transparency in the payment system. He said that since the formation of the government, more than 1 thousand new cowsheds have been started in the region, in which more than 2 lakh cows are being properly managed. The Chief Minister said that continuous efforts are being made in the direction of better maintenance of cattle, breed improvement and effective management of gaushalas along with cow breed protection.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that in Madhya Pradesh there is a complete ban on the slaughter of cattle and the legal provisions have been made more stringent to effectively control the illegal movement of cattle. A provision has also been made to tax the vehicles used in illegal transportation of cattle. He said that society’s participation is also necessary along with the government’s efforts to protect the cow breed. He said that Govardhan Pujan programs are organized every year in the gaushalas of all the districts of the region with the aim of increasing public awareness towards the cow breed. Along with this, work is being done in the direction of operation and construction of large gaushalas in urban areas as well.
