- Goa and Chhattisgarh to sign MoU for cultural exchange, research and development
Dr. Ramesh Tawdekar, Honorable Minister of Tribal Development, Sports and Youth Welfare, Goa, today witnessed a glimpse of Chhattisgarh’s tribal culture and pride. He visited the Chhattisgarh Tribal Museum and the Martyr Veer Narayan Singh Memorial cum Tribal Freedom Fighter Museum in Nava Raipur and was deeply impressed by the vibrant displays of tribal art, culture, customs, and tribal valor.
Goa’s Tribal Development Minister, Dr. Tawadkar, stated that Chhattisgarh’s tribal community played a crucial role in India’s freedom struggle. He was particularly impressed by the museum’s live displays of tribal bravery and the extensive digitization. He added that Goa also has a rich tribal history, but it hasn’t received as much publicity as in Chhattisgarh. Remembering former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said that it was during his tenure in 2003 that the tribal communities residing in Goa received formal recognition for the first time.

Dr. Tawadkar said that there is immense potential for better exchange in tribal research, development and cultural activities between Goa and Chhattisgarh. He also invited the delegation from Chhattisgarh state to visit Goa. On this occasion, Goa State Director of Sports Dr. Ajay Kumar Gode, Director of Tribal Affairs Department Goa Mr. Nilesh Daigodkar, Director of TRI Goa Mr. P. Gaonkar, OSD Mr. Rajendra Borkar, senior officers Mr. Arjun Ramakrishna Patil, Mr. Janak Tekale, Mr. Mrikund Nayak Tubki, Mr. Ashok Arvind Kale and Mr. Rajendra Datajirao were also present.
- An MoU will soon be signed between Goa and Chhattisgarh for cultural exchange, research and development – Principal Secretary Shri Sonmani Bora
After the museum visit, a brief meeting was also held in the auditorium of TRI, in which the possibilities of cooperation between the two states were discussed in detail. In the meeting, Principal Secretary Mr. Sonmani Bora gave information about the construction work of both the museums, their features and achievements through a PPT. He informed that an MoU will be signed soon between Goa and Chhattisgarh, which will enable important cooperation in the field of tribal museum construction, tribal research, development and cultural field. In the meeting, the Director of the Institute, Mrs. Hina Animesh Netam gave information about the Tribal Folk Music Studio Surgudi being built in the field of tribal culture.

It is noteworthy that the Martyr Veer Narayan Singh Memorial cum Tribal Freedom Struggle Museum, showcasing the tribal valor of Chhattisgarh, was inaugurated on November 1, 2025, during the State Festival, by the hands of the country’s illustrious Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, while the Chhattisgarh Tribal Museum was inaugurated in May 2025 by the hands of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai. After their inauguration, they have been opened to the public. Till date, more than 2 lakh tourists, researchers and experts have visited it.
A replica of the Martyr Veer Narayan Singh Museum was displayed in the parade organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, on the occasion of Republic Day, January 26, 2026. This provided the new generation, not only in Chhattisgarh but across the country, an opportunity to understand the immortal tales of tribal heroes, their patriotism, indomitable courage, and tradition of sacrifice on a national stage.
