Mobile medical unit becomes ‘Sanjeevani’ of forest areas: Over 2000 villagers received free treatment in three and a half months

  • Hospital reaches doorstep of Special Backward Tribes
  •  The picture of remote areas changed due to PM Janman Yojana

The government’s Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) is proving to be a boon for Chhattisgarh’s remote forested areas and particularly backward tribal areas nestled in inaccessible hills. Fulfilling the vision of “hospitals at the villager’s doorstep,” this service has provided healthcare facilities to 2,035 people in their own neighborhoods over the past three and a half months.

  • The compulsion to walk is over

In the past, villagers in these areas had to walk miles even for basic medical treatment. This unit, operating since January 15, 2026, under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, has been regularly organizing camps in the villages of Baldakchar and Aurai, dominated by the special backward tribe “Kamar,” and other villages in the Kasdol area. Now, people in remote settlements no longer need to travel to the city.

  • Diagnostics and medicine under one roof

This mobile hospital is fully equipped with a full suite of facilities. Each unit is staffed by a skilled team consisting of a medical officer, lab technician, nurse, and driver.
Free checkups: Important tests such as blood pressure, sugar, malaria, and hemoglobin are performed on-site. Experienced doctors provide medical advice and free medicines are also distributed.

  • Information through planned arrangements and public announcement

The administration determines the date and location of the camp a month in advance. To ensure timely information is available to villagers, announcements are made in every village. This has generated tremendous enthusiasm among the villagers. Local villagers said that long queues at the hospital and limited transportation would previously waste their entire day. Now, receiving treatment near home saves both time and money.

  • Moving from tradition to modernity

This initiative has had a significant positive impact on the mindset of the villagers. Particularly marginalized tribes, who previously relied solely on traditional herbal remedies, have now developed a greater trust in modern medicine. Instead of hiding illnesses, people are prioritizing timely diagnosis and treatment.
