- A confluence of nutrition and greenery
Linking the fight against malnutrition with public participation, the Women and Child Development Department in Kondagaon district has launched the Moringa Plantation Public Movement, taking a step towards achieving malnutrition in the district. Under the campaign, nutrition gardens will be developed by planting Moringa (drumstick) and various fruit trees in all Anganwadi centers. Its objective is to provide locally nutritious food to children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, while also promoting environmental protection.
At the launch of the campaign, public representatives, Women and Child Development Department officials, Anganwadi workers, helpers, self-help groups, school management committees, and local citizens planted trees and took a collective pledge for malnutrition and a green environment. Moringa is a highly nutritional plant. Its leaves, pods, flowers, and seeds are rich in many essential nutrients, including protein, calcium, iron, potassium, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Regular consumption of Moringa improves children’s physical development, immunity, and overall health.
The fruits and vegetables from the nutrition gardens prepared under the campaign will be used in nutrition activities, health day, nutrition month and community programs. Besides, people will also be made aware about cleanliness, balanced diet, water conservation and organic farming. To give the campaign the shape of a mass movement, the Women and Child Development Department has appealed to the citizens to adopt the message of one Anganwadi, one nutrition tree, one family, one fruit tree and to plant at least one Moringa and one fruit tree in every house, school and public place and take regular care of them.
