Medical board team reaches bear attack victim Prembai’s house, confirms disability of 55%

In the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district, the Health Department took a humanitarian step to provide relief to Prembai Gond, a victim of a bear attack, which is being widely praised throughout the region.

Taking seriously the suffering and circumstances of Prembai Gond, a resident of Chidola village, who was seriously injured in a bear attack last year, a team from the District Medical Board personally visited the victim’s home and conducted a health check-up. The medical board’s examination confirmed Prembai Gond’s 55 percent disability. The process of issuing a disability certificate has also been initiated, which will facilitate her access to Forest Department assistance, insurance benefits, and other government facilities.

According to reports, on June 20, 2025, Prembai Gond was suddenly attacked by a bear while collecting wood and other forest produce in a forest area. In this traumatic incident, one of her eyes was severely damaged, permanently robbing her of her sight. Since the incident, she has lived a life of physical pain, financial hardship, and helplessness. A
disability certificate was mandatory to receive assistance from the Forest Department, but due to financial constraints and physical illness, she was unable to reach the district hospital. This initiative by the Health Department proved to be a major relief for her.
