  • NDMA gave guidelines in the state level conference

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened a high-level conference to strengthen preparedness and prepare for a potential flood disaster in the state. It was decided to conduct a state-level table-top exercise on August 18th and a comprehensive mock exercise (mock drill) on August 20th to assess the state’s actual disaster management capabilities and inter-departmental coordination.

  • Testing of preparedness is necessary for quick relief and rescue

Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Mrs. Shammi Abidi, directed officials of the District Disaster Management Authorities to thoroughly understand all procedures and SOPs for the table-top exercise. She stated that this rehearsal will be crucial for conducting relief and rescue operations with zero delay in the event of an actual disaster.

  • Emphasis on inter-departmental coordination

During the conference, a detailed review was conducted on the active role and coordination of various departments during floods. A roadmap was developed for the immediate response to the disaster by the departments of Health and Family Welfare, Public Works, Water Resources, Public Health Engineering (PHE), and Animal Husbandry.

  • Senior officials of major departments reached the review meeting

Senior officials from the municipal army, fire brigade, civil defense, police headquarters, Raipur Railway Division (DRM), the director of Swami Vivekananda Airport, the telecommunications, science center, and industrial health and safety departments, along with the panchayat, energy, transport, and food departments, attended this important meeting.
