Unique initiative for nature conservation by making seed balls, emphasis on creation of green Jashpur

  • 80,000 seed balls are being prepared in Duldula block before the monsoon season, with active participation of villagers and women.

With the aim of environmental protection and increasing green cover, a seed ball production campaign has been launched in the Duldula development block of Jashpur district. Keeping in mind the upcoming rainy season, seed balls are being prepared on a large scale in gram panchayats with the participation of villagers, youth, and women from self-help groups. These balls will be distributed in barren, hilly, and forest areas during the monsoon. Seed balls are prepared from soil, cow dung manure, and seeds of local tree species. When it rains, these seeds germinate naturally and turn into plants, expanding the green cover and promoting environmental protection. This technique is considered an effective means of afforestation over a large area at a low cost.

The Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, Duldula, stated that the objective of this initiative is not limited to tree plantation, but also to increase public awareness about environmental protection and strengthen community participation. Under the campaign, approximately 80,000 seed balls of various local species, including mango, jamun, karanja, neem, and tamarind, have been prepared. Villagers and women from self-help groups enthusiastically participated in the campaign, describing seed ball production as a simple, effective, and community-based effort to conserve nature. The prepared seed balls will be distributed during the rainy season in areas that need to increase natural greenery.

Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, Mr. Abhishek Kumar, appealed to the people of the district to participate in this environmental campaign in large numbers and said that through collective efforts of all, it is possible to create a green, prosperous and happy Jashpur. He said that environmental protection is not only a responsibility, but also our obligation towards the future generations. In this campaign, along with local villagers, youth, women of self-help groups, Harsha Trust and BPM of Bihan under the High Impact Mega Watershed Project also actively participated, due to which the campaign is getting widespread public support and momentum.
