Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that the forest department should focus on the development of forest tourism keeping in view the rapidly growing tourism prospects in the region. He directed the departmental officials that wherever there are easy prospects for development and expansion of forest tourism in the region, the forest department should coordinate with the tourism department and prepare a concrete action plan and implement it. He said that Madhya Pradesh’s natural wealth, biodiversity and huge potential of wildlife tourism can play an important role in giving new impetus to the region’s economy. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was addressing the 32nd meeting of Madhya Pradesh State Wildlife Board at Mantralaya on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasized on promoting home stay in particular and said that this would provide employment and additional income opportunities to the local people, forest dwellers and tribal families in their area. He said that the benefits of forest tourism should not be limited to tourists, but should also become a means of prosperity for the forest dwellers and tribal families living in and around the forests. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the participation of the local community should be ensured in the expansion of tourism activities. On the one hand, tourists will get an opportunity to understand the local culture and traditions, while on the other hand, the rural and tribal economy will be strengthened.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said to keep in touch with other states, exchange mature and healthy wild animals with them. Chief Minister said that Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka should be given tigers available in Madhya Pradesh and elephants, rhinos and other wild animals should be taken from them. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav gave clear instructions to the officials regarding the use of forest land to strictly monitor the diversion of forest land for any purpose. Illegal mining in forest land should never happen.
In the meeting, various proposals related to infrastructure development and wildlife protection in the national parks and tiger reserve areas of the region were discussed in detail. A total of 30 proposals were submitted for approval, the Board granted approval after deliberation. These included construction of CC roads in forest villages located in the periphery of national parks in the region, construction of paved roads in forest villages located in tiger reserves, establishment of mobile towers in national parks and tiger reserve areas, construction of sub-health centers, laying of electric lines and other necessary construction works. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that any development in the forest villages in the periphery of national parks and tiger reserves should be done with the trust of the population.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that security of forest resources should be our top priority while maintaining an equal balance between development and conservation. There is no conflict between humans and wild animals. He said that it is important that while expanding the basic facilities of the people living in the forest areas, it should also be ensured that the development work does not adversely affect the protection of the forest and wild animals. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the participation of the local community should also be ensured in the expansion of tourism activities. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that senior officers of Central Government and State Archeology Departments should also be included as specially invited members to render specialist services in the Wildlife Board.
