Chief Secretary Shri Vikassheel directed for strict action against drug abuse and drug trafficking.

Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Mr. Vikassheel has directed the officials to take strict action, adopting a zero tolerance policy against drug trafficking and drug abuse in the state. He clarified that strict legal action should be ensured against those involved in illegal opium cultivation and drug trade. In the second quarterly meeting of the State Level Coordination Committee ( NCORD) held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan on Monday , he conducted a detailed review of the action taken by various agencies.

  • Surveillance and prevention of smuggling

The Chief Secretary directed that better coordination be established between the police , the postal department, and private courier services to prevent drug trafficking. He called for strict monitoring of transportation and courier services and for expediting the process of confiscating and auctioning vehicles used in smuggling. He also directed that illegally operating chemical drug laboratories be identified and immediate raids and inspections be conducted against them.

  • Emphasis on health and rehabilitation

To treat individuals affected by drug addiction, the Chief Secretary directed the Health Department to establish a de-addiction center with a minimum of 10 beds in every district hospital in the state. New de-addiction centers should be opened in districts as needed. Awareness programs should be organized in schools , colleges, and public places under the Drug-Free India campaign. The toll-free helpline number ( 1333) issued for rehabilitation and assistance should be widely publicized.

  • Security of educational institutions

In order to protect youth from the clutches of drug addiction, instructions were given at the meeting to declare a 500 -meter radius around all educational institutions as drug-free zones and conduct intensive checking there. The Chief Secretary also called for expediting the destruction process of confiscated drugs.

  • Presence of key officials

DGP Shri Arun Dev Gautam , Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Shri Manoj Kumar Pingua , Home Secretary Smt. Neha Champawat, senior officers of Social Welfare , Excise , Health , Higher Education and Narcotics Control Bureau ( NCB) , all Divisional Commissioners , Collectors and Superintendents of Police participated in this meeting held through video conferencing.
