Women prisoners are becoming self-reliant through the Nishchay program.

  • Delicious pickles are being prepared in Raipur Central Jail

A unique initiative has been launched at Raipur Central Jail for the overall reform of female inmates and their dignified rehabilitation into mainstream society. Under the Nishchay program, run by the prison administration, female inmates are being provided vocational training to make them self-reliant, facilitating their employment within the prison.

  • 60 women prisoners received training in pickle and spice making.

         60 women prisoners in Central Jail Raipur, convicted of various crimes, have been given special training in the basics of pickle and spice production. The main objective of this training is to enable the women prisoners to establish their own business units. During the training, these prisoners were given practical information regarding the production of food products and their excellent quality control, hygiene, packaging and safe storage. After completing the training, the women prisoners have started making pickles regularly in the women’s cell of the jail.

  • ‘Aastha is getting market through home industry, prisoners are becoming self-reliant’

          Female inmates are preparing delicious and hygienic pickles of various varieties, including mango, lemon, carrot, and garlic, within the prison premises, under strict hygiene. Arrangements have been made for the sale of these quality products. The finished products are being made available to the general public through the Astha Mungodi Center (Astha Home Industry Stall) and the prison canteen, located in the Central Jail complex. A portion of the proceeds from these sales is deposited directly into the accounts of these female inmates, empowering them financially and making them self-reliant.

  • “Prisons are centers for positive change,”


         said Mr. Yogesh Singh Kshatriya, Superintendent of Raipur Central Jail, regarding this commendable initiative. “Prisons are not merely places for punishment, but also for positive change in life,” he said. Under the guidance of Director General of Prisons, Mr. Himanshu Gupta, the Nishchay program, being implemented in prisons, is providing employment-oriented skills to female prisoners. These skills will not only make them self-reliant but will also help them live a respectable life and earn a living after release. The prison administration has also clarified that such employment-oriented training programs will continue to be conducted to ensure a brighter future for prisoners.
