Balrampur’s Vinayashree is no longer just a housewife, but a successful businesswoman.

  • Poultry farming has changed his fortune, with an estimated annual profit of over Rs 1 lakh.

Poultry farming has become a powerful means of economic independence for rural women. By joining self-help groups and taking advantage of government initiatives like the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, women are easily earning between 100,000 and 300,000 rupees annually by starting low-cost poultry farms. The National Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihar) is enabling women in rural Chhattisgarh to transform from mere housewives to successful entrepreneurs. By joining self-help groups, rural women are now writing a new chapter of self-reliance. A recent and illustrative example is Vinayshree, a resident of Lurghuta village in the Balrampur district panchayat of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district, who has transformed the poultry business into a major source of income through her hard work and excellent management.

  • Savings of 25 thousand and loan of 75 thousand rupees

Aspiring to make a difference despite limited resources, Vinayashree took advantage of the bank linkage through her self-help group. She secured a bank loan of ₹75,000 and added ₹25,000 of her personal savings. With a total initial capital of ₹1 lakh, she launched her poultry business with 1,000 chicks of the improved “Sonalika” breed.

  • Earned 81 thousand rupees from the sale of 600 chickens

Thanks to excellent care and streamlined management, Vinayashree’s poultry unit is rapidly turning profitable. Vinayashree said she has already earned a gross income of ₹81,000 from the sale of 600 chickens. After the remaining chicks grow and are sold, she expects a net profit of approximately ₹35,000 in this first cycle. After completing three cycles of poultry farming in a year, her net annual income will exceed ₹1 lakh, placing her in the category of “Lakhpati Didi.”

  • Plans made for the future

Vinayashree says, “The self-help group has not only given us financial strength but also the courage to move forward. Now I am able to meet my family’s needs with dignity and plan for the future.”

  • Gaining momentum with the guidance of officials

This transformation in Balrampur district is the result of the direction of Collector Mrs. Chandan Sanjay Tripathi and the able guidance of the District Panchayat CEO. With the support of the district administration, self-help groups have become the most effective means of social and economic empowerment for women, where many women like Vinayshree, having become self-reliant themselves, are inspiring other rural women to pursue self-employment.
