‘Chhattisgarh farmer prospers from teak cultivation, earns Rs 9.69 lakh profit’

  • ‘Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap handed over the incentive cheque’
  • ‘The land of Chhattisgarh is becoming greener with the help of agroforestry and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the Chhattisgarh government is continuously encouraging agroforestry and tree plantation on private land to double the income of farmers and protect the environment. A very successful and inspiring result of this far-reaching initiative of the government has come in the form of the success of farmer Shri Anil Jaju of Balod district.
In a special program organized in Naya Raipur, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap presented a cheque of incentive amount of Rs 9.69 lakh to farmer Shri Anil Jaju, resident of village Palari (Tehsil Gurur), in lieu of teak trees grown on his private land.

  • ‘Resolve for Green Chhattisgarh through Agroforestry and Public Participation’

On this occasion, Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap stated that the state government is encouraging farmers to adopt tree-based agricultural systems to overcome the risks of traditional farming. He added that agroforestry is becoming a strong source of long-term income for farmers. Furthermore, the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam) is also accelerating the creation of a green Chhattisgarh with public participation.

  • ‘One Tree for Mother’ Campaign

The Forest Minister said that through this campaign, the drive to make the entire state green with public participation is gaining new and unprecedented momentum. 24 years of hard work have paid off; farmer Mr. Anil Jaju’s success is an excellent case study for other farmers. In 2001, he planted teak trees on his 3.35 hectares of private land. After nearly 24 years of care and protection, in 2025, he obtained permission to fell the teak trees under the Tree Felling Rules 2022. A total of 173 teak trees were felled under the supervision of the Forest Department, yielding 949 pieces of wood. Its total volume was recorded at 33.24 cubic meters. The wood was purchased at the prescribed rate by the Forest Department, and in return, approximately ₹9.69 lakh was deposited directly into the farmer’s bank account.

  • ‘A unique confluence of environmental and economic prosperity’

Mr. Jaju’s remarkable success is a living example of how tree plantation, when done scientifically and systematically, can act as a fixed deposit for farmers. This not only empowers farmers financially but also significantly increases the state’s green cover. It helps combat the threats of climate change and conserves biodiversity at the local level. Farmers receive continuous support from the Forest Department. It is noteworthy that the Chhattisgarh Forest Department provides farmers interested in commercial tree plantations on their private lands with technical guidance, administrative incentives, and necessary assistance, from plant selection to the selection of trees. The government’s primary goal is to encourage more farmers to adopt the agroforestry model and transform their barren or vacant lands into profitable forests.
