- 350 livelihood ponds and over 150 community ponds will transform the rural water landscape
- Groundwater enrichment, irrigation expansion and rural livelihood will get permanent support
The “More Village, More Water” campaign, implemented in the district under the Vikasit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihoods Mission (VBG – RAMG), is emerging as an effective tool for rural development by linking water conservation with public participation. Under the campaign, 350 livelihood ponds and over 150 community ponds have been constructed, deepened, and developed in the district. These works have yielded significant success in rainwater conservation, groundwater recharge, and ensuring water availability in rural areas.
These water structures, built to maximize the collection of rainwater received during the monsoon season in the district, are now showing positive results in water conservation. Livelihood ponds and community ponds will play a crucial role in increasing groundwater levels by conserving rainwater and increasing the availability of irrigation in fields. This will provide farmers with additional water for farming and promote crop diversification.
The 350 livelihood ponds constructed under the campaign will also create new income opportunities for rural families. These ponds can be used for fisheries, vegetable production, horticulture, animal husbandry, and other livelihood activities, strengthening the economic status of rural families and increasing local employment opportunities. The construction and deepening of over 150 community ponds will significantly increase water storage capacity in villages. These ponds will provide long-term benefits for irrigation, drinking water for livestock, groundwater recharge, and environmental protection. They will provide relief from water scarcity during the summer season and ensure the sustainability of water sources.
This campaign, led by the district administration, is not limited to construction work alone but is also proving to be an effective means of raising community awareness about water conservation. With the active participation of village panchayats, public representatives, self-help groups, and villagers, water conservation is being transformed into a mass movement. Special emphasis is being placed on ensuring the conservation and regular maintenance of these water structures built with community support, so that villagers continue to reap their long-term benefits.
The district administration believes that water conservation is the foundation for future water security. With this vision, continuous efforts are being made to conserve water resources, enhance groundwater, and strengthen rural livelihoods through the “More Village, More Water” campaign. In the future, this campaign will play a crucial role in making the district water-rich, self-reliant, and moving towards sustainable development.
The district administration has appealed to all villagers to actively participate in the protection, cleanliness, and conservation of the constructed livelihood ponds and community ponds. Only with public support will this water conservation campaign achieve lasting success, and every village will be able to become self-reliant in the direction of water security.
