State level workshop organized in Bhopal to strengthen child protection mechanisms

  • All 55 District Child Welfare Committees have been chaired

State level training-cum-workshop on “Role of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in effective implementation of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO Act) and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015” was successfully organized by Madhya Pradesh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Bhopal on July 17, 2026 at Madhya Pradesh Council for Science and Technology (MPCST), Bhopal.

As a special guest in the program, Dr. Anil Kothari, Director, Madhya Pradesh Council for Science and Technology (MPCST), Bhopal and Mrs. Sudha Vijay Singh Bhadauria, Assistant District Public Prosecution Officer, District Court, Bhopal, Members of the Commission, Mrs. Sonam Ninama and Mrs. Archana Gupta were in dignified presence.

  • The main objective is to bring uniformity in the functioning of Child Welfare Committees

The main objective of the workshop was to establish uniformity in the functioning of all the child welfare committees of the region, to promote the legal and operational vigilance of the members, to ensure the exchange of experiences and best practices of different districts and to make the child protection system of the state more effective, responsive and in line with the principle of “Best Interest of Child”.

  • Deep brainstorming on legal provisions and practical challenges

In this training-cum-workshop, the presidents and members of child welfare committees of all the districts of the region were provided extensive and practical training on various important topics related to the effective implementation of the Protection of Drivers from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO Act) and the Juvenile Justice (Supervision and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. In the training, important issues like statutory provisions regarding child protection, procedural proceedings, doctrine of paramount importance of child welfare, rehabilitation and resettlement, departmental coordination, role of child welfare committee, case management, record keeping, reporting system of the commission and effective and timely resolution of sensitive cases were discussed in detail.

  • Emphasis on ensuring sensitive transactions and speedy justice

In the first session of the training special emphasis was given by Shri Ramendra Singh on making child protection system more sensitive and effective. He said that in every case, the child welfare committees should work with mutual coordination, sensitive approach and in accordance with the legal provisions while giving the highest priority to the best interests of the child or girl child. He inspired the committees to take responsible and fair decisions by adopting a humane approach in every case.

Director General of MPCST Dr. Anil Kothari in his essay emphasized the need to link child protection system with modern technology in present times. He said that with the effective use of latest technological resources and digital media, the security system can be made more robust, transparent and result oriented.

In the second session of the program extensive legal and practical training was imparted to the Child Welfare Committees by Mrs. Sudha Vijay Singh Bhadauria. Giving detailed information about various provisions of POCSO Act and Juvenile Justice Act, he said that the process of rehabilitation and resettlement of every victim boy or girl should be conducted in a safe, sensitive and child-friendly social environment. He provided necessary guidance to the Committees regarding ensuring the protection of the rights and dignity of the victims while fully following the legal procedures.

Madhya Pradesh Child Rights Protection Commission Chairman Dr. Nivedita Sharma laid special emphasis on continuous communication, effective coordination and making every decision based on the principle of child welfare to ensure timely, fair and quality action in every case related to child protection. He emphasized that the appointment of support person for child victims under the POCSO Act should be done with complete transparency and fairness. He said that such persons should be selected who can effectively protect the best interests of the victimized children.
