- Information given on POCSO Act, Child Marriage Prohibition Act and helpline services
Public awareness activities are being continuously organized in the state as part of the Child Marriage Free Chhattisgarh and Child Marriage Free India campaigns. Under the guidance of the District Program Officer and District Child Protection Officer of the Women and Child Development Department, a comprehensive campaign is being launched to prevent child marriage, protect women, and protect children.
In this regard, on May 21st, a joint team from the District Child Protection Unit of Mohla-Manpur-Ambagadh Chowki district and Childline organized an awareness program at the Vaibhav Complex Organization, Dangarh. The women present at the program were given detailed information about the provisions of the POCSO Act and the Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006. It
was explained that child marriage not only violates children’s rights but also negatively impacts their health, education, and future. While raising awareness, women were told that marriage is legally permissible only after girls attain the legal marriage age of 18 and boys attain 21.
During this, information was given about Child Helpline 1098, Women Helpline 181 and Emergency Service 112 and people were encouraged to immediately report any emergency or problem related to child protection. Society was also urged to play an active role in ending the evil practice of child marriage.
Through the Child Marriage Free Chhattisgarh campaign run by the state government, awareness programs are being continuously organized in rural and urban areas to make people aware of child rights, women’s safety and legal provisions.
