Secretary cum Labour Commissioner of Labour Department, Mr. Himshikhar Gupta, today reviewed the functioning of the Labour Department at the Secretariat (Mahanadi Bhawan). During this, he said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Dev Sai and guidance of Labour Minister Mr. Lakhan Devangan, the state government is running several schemes for the betterment of workers and their families. Departmental officers should ensure necessary action in this direction so that eligible beneficiaries get the benefits of all these schemes. Additional Labour Commissioners Mr. S.L. Jangde and Mrs. Savita Mishra, Secretary of Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Board Mr. Girish Ramteke, Deputy Secretary of Labour Department Mr. Vipul Gupta, along with field officers of Labour Department from various districts were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, Secretary Mr. Gupta stated that children from eligible labor families should be enrolled in schools under the Atal Utkrisht Shiksha Yojana. Departmental officials should take necessary action in this regard. It is noteworthy that, on the Chief Minister’s initiative, the number of seats has been increased from 100 to 200 for the new academic session. This scheme will enroll children of construction workers in private schools across the state. Under this scheme, children of laborers in the state will receive free education in elite residential schools from grades 6th to 12th. The entire cost will be borne by the Labor Department. The Labor Commissioner gave clear instructions to district labor officials that if ineligible individuals benefit from this scheme or if any complaints are received, the labor officials of the respective districts will be held accountable and disciplinary action will be taken against them as per the rules.
During the meeting, Secretary and Labor Commissioner, Mr. Gupta, emphasized the need for publicity regarding worker registration. He stated that implementing welfare schemes, protecting workers’ interests, and protecting their health are paramount. Worker registration, renewals, and implementation of these schemes should be completed within the stipulated timeframe. Contractors were asked to ensure that the number of workers employed corresponds to the number of workers licensed.

He also directed them to conduct regular factory inspections and take necessary action. The meeting also discussed online random inspections, prosecution and redressal proceedings, review of registrations under the Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishments Act, the Mini Mata Mahtari Jatan Yojana, the Chief Minister’s Naunihal Scholarship Scheme, the Chief Minister’s Noni-Babu Meritorious Education Assistance Scheme, the Martyr Veer Narayan Singh Labor Food Scheme, the Chief Minister’s Construction Labor Death and Disability Assistance Scheme, the Unorganized Workers Mahtari Jatan Yojana, and schemes included under the Public Service Guarantee Act. Furthermore, district-wise resolutions of applications received during Good Governance Festival were reviewed.
It is noteworthy that Chhattisgarh Labour Welfare Board has been constituted for the operation of welfare schemes for organized labourers and their families in the state, Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for the welfare of construction labourers engaged in building and other construction works and their families and Chhattisgarh Unorganized Workers State Social Security Board for the welfare of unorganized labourers working in unorganized sectors and their families. Social security is ensured by the above boards by registering the labourers and running schemes for their welfare.
